20 best bars for beer geeks

I would include:
RFD, Washington DC
Brewers Art, Baltimore MD
Thirsty Monk, Ashville NC

While I enjoyed The Trappist, I’d put Brick Store in Decatur, GA up next to it any day.

While pricey, I think The Birch in Norfolk, VA might be worth a nod. Here’s a current DRAFT list:

Beer is the answer.

The Ginger Man in Austin, Texas.

Max’s is amazing.

I’ve been to 11 out of the 20 in the article.  They were all pretty amazing.

11 here also.  Have you hit HopCat yet?  I like that place, really like it!

We’ll be in Grand Rapids tomorrow.  Is that the best place?  I haven’t researched it yet.

Been to few of those, but of course, I feel like they miss a few from the country’s second largest city!

Hopcat, Founders and Brewery Vivant would be on my list downtown.  All within walking distance of each other, but Brewery Vivant is about 1 mile from Hopcat.  Should be no problem with the fine weather we are having.

North of town the Hideout is said to be good, have not been.

Edit - Forgot to say bring your spare liver!

East Coast bias was there.  Nothing from SD or Seattle?

Naked City from Seattle was there.  It’s a really good place.  I would certainly put it on a list of the best beer bars in Seattle, but I’m not sure it would be my #1.  I hope Don isn’t reading this.

Sorry Tom, I missed that.  Not familiar with it, was thinking of the ones that get more press.

No worries.  There was a pretty clear East coast bias though.

Have you ever been to Prague (Czech Republic, Europe)? If you would like ti visit a city where approximately 300 bars and restaurant have their home-brewed beer then go there! You might be there for a week or even a month and will get served a different sort of beer at each location. This might be the best place in the world for beer enthusiasts!

Nice list. I’ve been to a few…and would like to hit some of the others.

Anyone see DRAFT Mag’s 100 best beer bars 2011 yet?

Two of the best beer bars that I’ve visited are The Brick Store Pub in Atlanta, and The Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh.  The Brick Store is well known, Sharp Edge maybe not as much.  Both have an awesome selection of beers in general, but really stand out for my favorite styles…Belgians.  And it’s not just that those two bars have an unbelievable selection of beers.  Perhaps even more important is the knowledge of their staff.  The staff are beer geeks themselves.  They love to talk beer and know the styles extremely well.

At least Texas got one mention. The Draught House in Austin. I would have expected something from Houston or Dallas as well.

I think if you click to the chains you will see TX in a couple there…FS, GM…

The best beer bar on the planet is a tiny little place in Seattle WA. Uber Tav. Sells nothing but beer. I have had multiple beers that were the only keg of that beer in america. Most ecclectic and unique and educated and everchanging taps you will ever find. Great bartenders and cool people. I would travel from anywhere in the world just to drink at Uber for a week.

Uber is only a few blocks from Naked City and far superior. I lived in the neighborhood when Naked City opened. Actually that neighborhood has about 8 tremendous bars. The best beer neighborhood I have ever been in. It was hard to move.
