Reminder, or for folks that haven’t seen this before, if you join in you are committing to ship 4 beers to the person you are assigned. Done by random draw. It’s not a pairing because that requires an equal number of participants. You’ll ship to one person and receive from another.

Rules/dates/general ramblings:

  • If you want in on the swap, PM me your real name and address and indicate if you will be brewing a challenge beer.
  • Send 4 beers in total, including one local offering.
  • You can brew the “Challenge Beer” if you want. (See below.) It counts as 1 of the 4 beers required.
  • Deadline to send me your name/address is March 25th.
  • Deadline to ship is April 30th.
  • You gotta discuss the beers you received on this thread. Pictures are encouraged!
  • Reviews must be polite as well as accurate. If you want to offer helpful criticism, please make an attempt to PM the brewer first.

Challenge Beer
You can, if you want, brew a “Challenge Beer”. Rules are pretty simple:

[quote=Jim]Here are the finalized Challenge Beer guidelines.

Ingredients you have to use (mandatory)
DME
Dry yeast

Techniques you can’t use
Mash
Mini-mash

Anything not mentioned is fair game

Disclaimer: this is not an official AHA thing. We are just helping each other brew better beer. Also, I am not policing this and sending reminders for shipping… if mid-May comes and you haven’t gotten a package, feel free to PM your shipper and get it figured out. We haven’t had any deadbeats since Jim started these things, so let’s not ruin a good thing! (HoosierBrew is the sergeant-at-arms and he will give you an internet stink eye if you don’t ship!) Protip: reduce impatience and nervousness by PMing your plan and a tracking number to your recipient.

Looking forward to it!  ;D

Spectacular Amanda! Way to raise the bar! I’m looking forward to thi

Here’s my plan: I’ll be bottling two beers from a keg within the next week. Once I’m satisfied that doing so didn’t cause them to pick up an infection, I’ll commit.

Third beer will likely be the mild I have planned for the weekend.

By the way, we talking bombers or 12-ounce beers?

PM sent, I’m in

you’ll be good Phil. That’s how i’ve bottled all mine and never an issue. unless you have a crap filled bottle or transfer line, should be just fine.

Regarding bombers vs 12s, my personal thoughts are that it depends on what ya got, and probably what style. For example all of my saisons and bret beers go in belgian 750s. Beer gun fills can go in whatever. A bomber of something sessionable might be nice, but with big beers I think 12s are plenty generous.

Looking forward to it!

bombers is all I have so that’s what ya get folks…yeah, I’m sure that sucks  ::slight_smile:

I’m just glad that I’ve done good by you.

Yeah, just send what you have. I’d hope no one here would get pissy over volumes.  For instance, I prefer 12oz bottles, but if I draw some bombers… well, I know how to share. Haha

Regarding things like bottle size etc, I suggest new folks read the links Amanda posted. You’ll see that its pissy-free, and generally folks are overly generous. They are also extremely gracious with feedback. The biggest thrill tends to come from sharing and getting to know people. Putting a beer to a name, so to speak.

Couldn’t agree more.

BTW, can we have “pissy-free” as some sort of Forum motto? Haha

I approve that message

After the recent run of trolling here, I concur heartily.

Agreed 100%  Work changed my plans for the DME beer today. Black IPA will have to wait until next week.

We have 15 signed up already - nice. About half of them are doing the challenge beer.

Awesome!

I like to bottle and send plastic PET bottles that are 16 ozers.  They seem to work fairly well if I bottle with the beer gun and I have near zero issues with leaks!  Hopefully that is okay!

Actually, sounds like a great idea to me. Much safer for shipping.

I’m in for my first swap; looking forward to it.

I’m in, but I have not brewed a lot lately.  What I have right now is three treatments of the same Imperial Porter - one with coffee and little brett, one that spent some time in a bourbon barrel and one plain.
So if you like this sort of thing, you may want to tell Amanda.
I have some old sour beers, too, to round it out.
