2017 NHC Date and Location.

Saw the poster announcing-
June 15-17 Minneapolis MN.

Nice.

372 days and counting.  (1 more day until Baltimore!)

Dang it… I was hoping for Austin Texas.  Oh well.  Should still be fun.  I’m not making it to Baltimore this year, but I’ll hope to go next year (and hope they change the name back to NHC…)

I think in the past Texas was out due to some outdated alcohol laws.  I’m not sure if it’s still the case though.

Austin has been discussed a few times, but my take is that until several things get worked out woth laws it won’t happen.  I think there were also facilities issues.

I might have to go there.

TX has some legal things with Homebrew that are issues to having the Conf. there as I understand it.

I typed NHC out of habit, but it is HomebrewCon.

Stay strong…NHC NHC NHC!

Yeah, I think we still have a few legal issues to work out in TX, though I’m not that up on pouring laws at festivals, etc.

The legal situation has definitely improved in TX, as a few years back our silly labeling laws did not allow anything over 4% to be called beer. In response the the TABC’s argument to continue this practice, the judge responded that under the previous law:

So I guess it’s getting better. Until we get the rest resolved, I’m booking tickets to Minneapolis. Wish I was there with you guys in Baltimore. Enjoy!

It would be great to see you!  Although NHC is ostensibly about beer, for me it’s really, about seeing friends.

Would be great to meet you again.

Bummer, wasn’t aware of that, was just wishful thinking anyway, not any serious research into a location.  Minneapolis should still be fun though!

That’s driving distance to the folks, which makes it a no-brainer for me.

What’s that? I’ll go through Eau Claire?! 8)

We will too.

He he. I would love it.

Totally agree. And, I would add, making new friends.

There’s a number of problems here just with homebrew. The TABC requires bills of lading on all homebrew leaving homes for pouring at events and any organized tasting or event requires that everybody in attendance be members of a club. TABC also has problems with commercial beer and homebrew being served at the same time or as part of the same event.

Anyone aware of a lobbying effort to remedy this? I live in Austin and would be happy to help out.

Maybe the AHA? I am not aware of any major lobbying efforts on that point. The bill of lading isn’t that big of a deal (it’s just filling out a form) and having people sign up to be a member of a club at the front door of an event isn’t that big of a deal (also just filling out a form) but prohibitive for a large event like NHC.

Is it safe to assume that the 2017 NHC will be held at the convention center.
