I hope the Welcome Reception is better than last year…but that may have had something to do with Michigan laws. The beer was poured by convention staff that knew nothing about the beer and a lot of the brewers and brewery staff were absent.
Thankfully the BN did their party that night so it was a good night.
I heard Gary glass give an interview saying that the welcome reception will be outdoor with numerous breweries serving kinda festival style and club night will be the same style. Wish I was going.
OK…for us poor saps who can’t make it this year, what’s the rumor for next year? I’ll buy a beer for the first person to answer correctly at Club Night (Copyright Drew Beechum 2014 )
Not to be pedantic and stuff, but you’re missing a few years from that copyright. I believe I used it during my second campaign (and first successful election) to the GC in 2008.
As for rumored locations - I haven’t heard any rumors, so I’m not starting them except to say that the plan is still to have the conference bounce around the country into different regions.
I think Gary announced San Diego at an event in February last year and it spread like wildfire. I know they like to do a presentation with the next year’s committee members at the banquet. This is what makes me think they will know by then at the latest. But I guess it could be delayed if there were contract issues.
It was mentioned a while before and tentatively confirmed at NHC. From what I recall, there were still a couple of questions on the laws at the time that are apparently resolved.
The request for participation to the California breweries went out on the Brewers Association forum today. The request requires that the breweries have a California presence and they receive several tickets to attend the event so that they are more likely to send knowledgible staff. The request specifically tells the breweries that we homebrewers are beer savvy and we like to talk with their staff about beer.
This will not be a repeat of the neutered brewery participation that Michigan made us do.
As mentioned, there are still openings to attend the convention and it is shaping up to be a great event. Make your plans now!
