260 g (5.1%) — Ireks Crystal Mahogany — Grain — 60 EBC

18 g — Ekuanot 13.5% — Boil — 15 min

18 g — Mosaic 12.4% — Boil — 15 min

28 g — Ekuanot 13.5% — Aroma — 15 min hopstand @ 70 °C

28 g — Mosaic 12.4% — Aroma — 15 min hopstand @ 70 °C

34 g — Ekuanot 13.5% — Dry Hop — 3 days

Looks very tasty but will be too hoppy for a blonde. Looking like a hoppy pale ale to me though the grains and yeast look good. Have you checked out the bjcp guidelines for this style?

Welcome to the forum!  Very nice first post.  :slight_smile:

This does not fit the American Blonde Ale style at all.  Way too hoppy.  I calculate about 54 IBU.  If you want an American Pale Ale, then it’s good.  But if you really want a Blonde Ale, then do not use any dry hops or hop stand, then it will turn out fine.  So, you need to make a decision which style you really want.

I can not find American 2-row so i’ve read that combo pils 90% / Crystal light 5% / carapils 5% Is near American 2-row

About hops the are 30 ibu with rbr=0,6
what do you think? I’ve read bjcp…i’ve used 1,5gr./lt in flavour, 2,5gr/LT. In aroma e 3gr./LT in dry hopping!

Personally, I would bitter to 20-25 IBUs @ 60 minutes and throw in 1 oz of late/whirlpool hops if you really want to.

The grain is not the problem whatsoever. I have a blonde ale on right now that is 20 IBUs from bittering hops with no other additions. It gets some fruity esters from my yeast choice though that gives the impression of later hop additions.

If you like the recipe you have, just call it a pale ale.

I’ve modified the recipe, what do you think? It’s seems like an American blonde ale?

Looks pretty good to me! I would still drop the IBUs a bit. The overall impression is supposed to be “malt oriented, well-balanced, and clean”. Again just my opinion. Looks tasty regardless of what this fool says…

Still too hoppy for an American Blonde Ale, but getting closer.  Don’t add any hops at 5 minutes remaining in the boil, then it will be right.

This will be a good beer. It is a blonde ale with a bit more hoppy flavor from the 15 minute additions but probably not too much hoppy flavor.

Most brew pub blonde ales in the USA would leave out the 15 minute additions as this style is designed for people who regularly drink macro lagers (Budweiser, Bud Light, Heineken: very low bitterness and little to no hop flavor) who are at the pub and want a beer.  American Blonde Ale is an introductory craft beer.

Most homebrewers like hops. So, our Blonde Ales often look more like yours. In competitions they get dinged as too hoppy. Yours is borderline. I say brew it and enjoy it. It will taste better with the 15 minute additions.

Hi…I was thinking…what about if I use only equanot instead of equanot and mosaic?

Any beer with zero Mosaic is better than a beer with Mosaic in my opinion.

It will turn out great with just Equanot.

That would still be good. Ekuanot is a nice hop standalone. If dropping one or the other hop, just double the weight of the remaining hop for all additions.

PS. Mosaic provides awesome citrus flavors though.

I’m with dmtaylor.  I don’t get citrus at all from Mosaic, more like blueberries and stale pee.

Oh! I have never used Mosaic by itself. I guess the citrus is coming from other hops.

Yummie. Stale pee!  (I may need to rethink the Mosaic American Pale Ale I am planning later this Summer.)

No, I’d like your analysis!  I’ve only had Mosaic as a single hop in a couple of commercial beers, where I didn’t care for them.  But I’ve used them in a blend for the pronounced blueberry effect.  That’s really interesting,  but that and the, I presume, 4MMP, can be a little one dimensional (ok 2 dimensional) and needs something else.  But the only way to really know a hop is to do a single hop test brew.  Or drink someone else’s.  Don’t know if Founder’s still make Mosaic Promise, SMaSH with Golden Promise.  If so, you could try that.

I have never tasted pee with this hop. I admit I have only used it twice. Both times I loved it. I mixed it both times with other hops.
