Are rice hulls ever needed in BIAB?

I’m planning to use about 10% wild rice in a porter.  I’ll grind it and cook it before adding it to the mash.  I typically use about 8 1/2 gallons in the brew pot for 10 to 11 lbs. of grain.

Given the above, if I stir the wild rice mixture into the water at my strike temp before adding the rest of the grains to begin the mash, will I need rice hulls?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

For BIAB, I would say no, rice hulls are not needed.

For any other process, they are cheap insurance.  Are they necessary in these cases?  It depends.  At 10%, maybe not.  At 20% or more, possibly but not necessarily.

Clear as mud, ain’t it!

Wild rice has hulls on it
