They must be pornographic avatars. 
If you are using IE8, it doesn’t support images created with CMYK color profiles. IE9 is supposed to fix this.

I haven’t changed a thing since a couple days ago but now I can see all (including my own) the avatars that I couldn’t see a while back. Don’t know what’s going on.
Another weird thing I’m encountering is when I log in the first time it doesn’t recognize my password & I have to re-enter it. I know I can’t be fat fingering it every time… Cheers!!!
