Hey guys,
We’re planning a trip to Portland this winter. Any recommendations on an area of town to stay in? We’re looking in Kerns and Buckman right now. We’re looking for a neighborhood with lots of restaurants/breweries within walking distance (<3-4miles). Basically, the most intolerably hipster part of Portland is what we’re looking for.
Thanks
If you want intolerably hipster, go close in SE. If you want urban renewal, go NW. If you have the time, take a couple nights (and a couple cabs) to a few neighborhoods near the river and downtown. Welcome, cheers and have a great time!
There’s nothing more ‘hipster’ than hating hipsters. I’m just excited to get out of the food-culture wasteland of rural Missouri and be able to walk places and buy real coffee and beer again.
??? I think my response was as specific as the question posed. Portland is not a big city. The Willamette river essentially splits downtown into eastside/westside. Not to be overly general, but you do indeed get different vibes in the NW, NE, SW, SE parts of town if you use Burnside as your North/South division.
Like I mentioned before, if you stay close in (near the river) you can hardly go wrong. We have more than 40 craft breweries in town. Personally I don’t really have a favorite because I enjoy trying different places. If I had to pick on the spot, I’d say go SE. Check out Hopworks (a bit farther out), The Green Dragon taproom for local and regional variety on tap and Cascade Barrel House if you like sour beers.
+1,
Besides the Rogue and Deschutes taprooms, I also liked Upright, Amnesia, Laurelwood, Alameda and Green Dragon. Roots was also decent. All located in PDX proper.
