Blow Off Tube Advice. L-Bracket?

Hey everyone,

I just got a Catalyst Fermenter for Christmas and am super stoked to use it!  Unfortunately, my chest freezer has about 26 1/2" of clearance and the Catalyst stands ~26 - 26 1/4" tall when on the stand.  Is there such a thing as an L-Bracket that could be installed into the “bung” so I could run a blowoff tube at a 90° angle from the top of the Fermenter?  I just need some way to run that blowoff tube @ 90° and everything should fit very nice and Snug…

I was hoping not to purchase a new Chest Freezer…

Thanks in Advance!

edit: Not sure if this will help, but I usually dump 5gal into the Fermenter (so should have ~1.5gal headspace).

You might be able to use a shortened racking cane.

Sure you can run it at 90. I’ve used a small piece of soft copper, no issues.

Did you get it from your LHBS?

Or get creative and go to Home Depot (and then attach tubing to the end)?

It would be hard to make a full 90° bend if your clearance numbers are accurate. Mitered and welded stainless tubing might be best.

If you search for “90 degree hose barb” on Amazon, you will find a lot of options.

You might try a 90* Pex water line connector if you can fit a stopper on it

I just made my own. I think the racking cane idea would work well. Cut it off and push it down to your bung.

Or put a collar on your chest freezer…

Hey guys,

Thank you for all of the advice.  I swung by Home Depot last night and bought one of these:

I went with plastic just to ensure Copper wasn’t anywhere near the Fermentation…

The 1/2" side fits perfectly into the Bung and I’ll buy tubing to attach to the 3/4" side.  I also bought a Metal Ring in order to secure the Plastic Tubing from coming loose during Fermentation.  I’m thinking this should solve the issue!

Sorry if I sound a little naive here, but what is a Collar for the Chest Freezer?

Just googled it and found this…

I’m definitely going this route, the wifey won’t let me buy another chest Freezer right now and I’ve been looking for an excuse to use my Miter Saw.  Thanks so much for the Idea!!!
