brew nanny

These things are pretty cool, but really pricey.  I wonder how many they will sell.

And is it me, or does it look like the carboy is moldy?  :o

What happens when you have a really active fermentation, one of the ones that requires a blow off tube, what does all that krausen forced into this device do to it?

interesting.  i have used a digital outdoor thermometer that reads on my indoor thermometer to check my chamber temp.  but i don’t think that gadget is for me

seems way way too complicated for too little return to me.

OK, so you get a report via wifi that the temp is too high.  What do you do about it when you’re not there?  To me, this thing is a solution looking for a problem.

Really good question.

You freak out and worry.  Drop whatever you’re doing and go home to tend to your beer.

I’ve often thought that it might be nice to have a device that would track and log temps so you could see the hour by hour (or more frequently) temp fluctuation, but I don’t really care that much.

+1.

Well, the technology is out there, but I’m sure it’s pretty outside my budget. Very cool though :

I like the idea of not needing a hydro sample to monitor fermentation progress, but how would the CO2 monitor work if you’re fermenting in a bucket? I have several that don’t seal perfectly air-tight around the lid. Also, do they have a bucket and better bottle adapter? And how long is the probe? I brew 3-gallons in 6-6.5 gallon buckets and carboys pretty often, so I’d need the probe to get all the way to the beer in the fermenter.

It wouldn’t. I thought the same thing.

I think it is cool.  But to me, it is cool at $20, and dumb at $100.  I bet it costs closer to the latter, therefore, to me, dumb.

It is especially cool to anyone (not me) that is doing brewing science at home.  Perhaps the AHA could buy a few and lend them out with their Science grants when needed.

$250

Holy sh!te! Yeah, not cool at that price. Unless you’re money bags.

And that is with a 50% discount.

I saw this too and laughed, if it blows clean off from over active fermentation does it text you and say “get home you’ve got a mess to clean up”?

SCAM ALERT!!!
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

I have an order from Oct 2014 have yet to receive it or receive a response from them. They do not give a phone number or physical address in which to contact, leaving only emails which are roundly ignored. BYO Magazine will not accept any new advertising from them.

I ordered a brew bug when it came out.  performs the same function, great to work with… and a year later…still doing great.

the company has continued to upgrade their system … and I love it.

It is kind of nice to  call up the gravity and lunch…and know that you need to start the Drest when you get home… or be out on an all day fishing trip and see from the trend that the beer has started active fermentation.

At 250… it is still a toy that is NOT needed.  mills, fridge, kegs are all on the list long before this…but after you have all those gadgets…what the heck…

This is a scam. I ignored all the warning signs and did it anyway.  (did not see this post) I am a techno-geek and thought it was just too cool. After I signed up to his “let me know when it’s available link” I get an email that someone canceled and I can have theirs. I ask questions, look at the website and google for reviews (there are none). I buy it anyway. I know.

After a week I sent an email and am told that mine has just been completed and is in testing. All follow ups after that were ignored. Just filed my claim with Paypal.  (someone there also let it slip they do not allow him to sell through them anymore)

If you register to see the forum, there have not been any posts in months, except for one asking for a refund, and that one’s probably gone by now.
Anyway, in case anyone else wanted to consider, just wanted to put out there
