What’s the best kind of lighting to install in a brewery?  I’m considering a number of factors, including

    • low UV emission to avoid skunking finished beer
    • appropriate color temperature for observing beer when tasting
    • low heat emission since I’ll be working under them

I’ve found it hard to get the data above on various products, especially the spectral data.

to get all that you’re going to have to spend the $$ on LED.

I have cheap shop lights in my brewing area and plan on installing LED lighting once it finally comes down in price.  For now I just use soft white fluorescent tubes and put old dress shirts on my carboys to keep the light out.

Incandescent lights (plain old light bulbs put out better light than any of the fluorescent types.  The down side on these though is about to be availability.  The last US plant making them (and any other light bulb in the US for that matter) is closing down this year.

I have seen converted light bulbs that use LED. Would that be sufficient? They are CFL competitors.

I do alot of brewing work in my basement and the lighting sucks in general but the fermanting room is an old cellar which is always dark and always at about 65 ish. looking at buying rail led light system for the work area.

the converted bulbs you refered to would work fine…
