Bulk Hops, now that NikoBrew is closed

So as many of you know, NikoBrew was recently forced to close up shop after some unfortunate financial issues. This is really sad since they were an AWESOME company to work with and had great prices on top of flat rate $5 shipping.

The shipping thing is what is killing me as I am looking for a replacement hop source. I am finding some ok deals on sites such as Hopsdierct and Farmhouse Brewing, with Hops direct having some solid sales. Sights like Morebeer and NB, have cheap shipping, but the hop prices are ridiculously high IMO.

But both these and seemingly every other site I find has very high costs for shipping. It’s just hard for me to get over paying almost $20 in shipping for a relatively small hop order, especially after paying $5 flat for the last few years.

Does anyone have any sources with good prices AND good shipping?

YVH has fair rates for USPS priority.

I will only buy from Hop Heaven.  Best hops I’ve ever used.  Run by Ted Hausotter, a BJCP Master+ judge.  He goes to farms around Yakima and personally selects the hops.  You can find them on ebay, or PM me for an email addy for them.  He also ships USPS Priority, so shipping is pretty reasonable.

+1 for Ted at Hop Heaven.  He lives in Baker City OR, which isn’t TOO far from Yakima,  (~4hr drive)
He’s also close to the OR hop growers.

He’s a good friend of mine and a great resource.

+2.  Ted’s hops are superb.

Ive had god luck with yakama and good quality. Seems a shame about Niko. Certainly going to mis niko.

Hop heaven, Farmhouse, YVH, Hops Direct and Freshops are all excellent sources of hops in bulk at decent prices

Really sad news to hear that NikoBrew closed :frowning:

Time to order some rhizomes and grow your own?

Not for me.  After years of growing hops I tore mine out because they were more hassle than they were worth.

+20^^^

Another vote for Hop Heaven. I live in SC, with no LHBS. Shipping is reasonable, hops are great, and customer service has been great.

+21.75  I just gave away my plants last spring (2016) to an aspiring MN hop farmer and I don’t miss them one bit.  I can hardly stand the dwarf apple tree that produces about 150 apples, so I’m not one for gardening/farming.  Plus, you can’t grow enough varieties to make it worth my time.

I recently ordered from Freshops, HopsDirect, and Hop Heaven. I like all three for different reason but especially like Freshops because Dave went the extra mile helping me get reasonable shipping rates coupled with his 2 oz variety/12oz total minimum. I only brew every 3-4 weeks so don’t need pounds and pounds of hops laying around. I ordered 2 oz of 6 varieties that I received in 3 days cross country USPS. I can use them in my next few brews. That’s perfect for me.

Dave is indeed a great guy!

And a free twist tie in every bag!  ;D

LOL. I heard Tinseth say Dave ships in baggies. I received vacuum sealed bags but haven’t cut one open yet. I don’t see a twist tie but will be disappointed if I don’t get one. LOL

Yeah, they’re all vacuum sealed, but I’ve never had one without a twist tie that I can recall, though I vacuum seal again after opening.  Just another example of going that extra mile – who else would think of that?

I like Hop Heaven. There is an annual sale that drops prices for last year’s crop pretty good. I have been pleased with all the hops I have purchased from Hop Heaven.

PS. I probably have 2-3 years of hops in my freezer. But, they were on sale

20 years ago, Dave did ship in baggies.
