Corney Keg Adhesive

OK, please put your thinking caps on here.  I have a couple of Corney kegs that have the black rubber tops and bottoms.  The adhesive that holds the top to the keg has given way so the rubber separates from the stainless steel keg.  I have tried using Liquid Nails to repair it.  Sometimes it holds, sometimes, it doesn’t.  I called SABCO since they used to recondition these types of kegs but they don’t recondition them anymore and can’t recommend a good adhesive.

Have any of you had this problem and if so, can any of you recommend a good strong adhesive that I could use to glue this thing back to the top of the keg?  I thought about using J.B. Weld but it would take quite a bit and mixing the two parts and applying it would be a real PITA.  If I had to, I could use it but would prefer something I can just squirt in between the rubber and the stainless that would hold things together.

I have not used it, but it appears to be ideal for this type of application.

3M weather stripping adhesive. The original yellow is better known in some circles as Gorilla Snot, but it also comes in black now.

It’s probably not the prettiest fix, but if it were me there’d just be a big ring of duct tape around it…

I’ve had pretty good luck with Gorilla Glue

I used a heated glue stick – which worked great untilI added 185° water to the keg. Duh!

Gorilla Glue is amazing stuff. I’d definitely give that a try.

I love Goop. I find that surface preparation is important and so is maximizing the contact area that is actually glued.

I’ve also not had the best results with Liquid Nails.  The last time I was doing this type of repair on a keg, I found Liquid Nails Fuze It at the hardware store.  I only did one keg with it, but so far it’s holding.  Can’t speak for longevity because it was just earlier this year.

+1 on the Goop and the 3M adhesive

+1 on the surface preparation.

I’ve used gorilla glue.

Short term fix is to use gorilla tape around the keg and handle.

I tried Gorilla Glue again.  Will let you know how it works.  One of the guys on a pro brewer forum I am subscribed to says that marine epoxy might do the trick as well.  Stay tuned for further developments.

The best adhesive for this job will be flexible such as the aforementioned wx strip adhesive, contact cement, super 77 etc.

Shoe Goo II.  Good combo of sticky and flexible.

I’ve fixed shoes with it. It works well.

My experienced guess with my experience with adhesives is 5200 Marine Sealant. It is available in clear black and white. It takes 48 hours to cure, and I’ve had to use a blowtorch to get it to release. With any adhesive use as little as possible and clamp as tightly as you can. It’s what I plan to put two bottom rubbers on cornys, but I think it will do the loose top I have. nI know it holds rubber trim on car panels like the proverbial mother fornicator.
