I was cleaning a second hand keg I’ve had for a while and noticed a pretty funky aroma. Took a while to find it but the rubber keg foot was loose most of the way around and turned inot a nice hideout for a bunch of funky smelling grunge. I pulled the thing the rest of the way off and cleaned it. Anyone know what kind of adhesive to use to put it back on?
I have found Gorilla Clear, non-foaming works better than any glue I have ever used. It comes in a small 2-3oz. tube and you can find it at Menards or Home Depot. It sticks to everything!
I’ll give that a whirl. thanks.
Two or so years ago I used Gorilla Clear to reattach the handle of a coffee mug, hoping we would get a few more uses before we found its replacement (which we never did). In theory Gorilla Clear is only water-resistant, not waterproof, but the mug has been through the dishwasher dozens of times if not more without any loosening of the handle. Just find some way to “clamp” the bottom to the keg while it is curing, and be sure to give it a good 24 hours cure.
I believe I used Shoe Goo when I had to reattach the top / handles on an old keg. Like others said, make sure you clean both surfaces, ensure that you’re getting both surfaces to stay in contact, and give it plenty of time to cure. Mine has been holding up well, and the top gets more of a workout than the bottom because those are the handles I use for lifting the keg.
Totally use Non-Foaming Gorilla Glue. Just make sure both surfaces are super clean and also find a way to clamp the base to the footing. In terms of letting it Cure they say 24 hours but I always go a little longer like 36-48 hours.
I had this happen to two kegs. I put the rubber foot in the dishwasher for a couple cycles to get the funk out. Then, attached it to the keg base with clear, waterproof silicon. They’ve held up for some time now
Hi I have a keg that the black top part is coming off…it is about a third off, still connected rest of way. Dont see a way to really clean before gluing…any suggestions?
You might try submerging and soaking that area in warm PBW or Oxyclean.
I had a similar situation. I pulled it the rest of the way off, then cleaned it, and re-glued it.
It sounds like you’re thinking about trying to glue down only the potion that’s separated, but I think it may be better to completely remove it first.
I use PL500. PL300 would probably be better as PL500 is a bit over kill. It will never come off. Run a bead of clear bathroom silicon sealant around the top of the foot piece before attaching it to keep the nasty odor away.
