is something funky going on with the yeast market? last time I stocked up on danstar nottingham dry yeast, it was $2.50-$3.00 a packet. one of my LHBS was out yesterday, checked another today and its stock was $5.00 each.
Yep. The Danstar Windsor costs me that much. Has gone up over the past five years. Was $0.75 in 2007. :-\

The quality is much better. And the packs are vacuum sealed.

I used my last vacuum packed one from my fridge with a price tag of $2.99. LHBS today was charging $4.99. the stash in my fridge couldn’t have been more than two or three months old.
I’m a big fan of Fermentis. I used to use the Danstar sometimes because of the price. Now Fermentis is usually cheaper. T-58 and S-33 are $1.75 at Rebel Brewer, and $2.25 at my (sort of local) HBS. S-04 and US-05 are $2.95 at Rebel and $3.95 at my HBS, the same price as their Danstar yeasts.
Danstar is definitely creeping up on the price-point where you might as well just buy liquid yeast.

And if you feel you do got to, you don’t got to for every new batch of brew batch if you repitch.
I see your point. My point was that they have to pay off the new process and equipment.
I don’t buy much dry yeast.
