I think it’s just a preference thing. I’m not a fan of Fuggles and Willamette derives from Fuggles. But there’s no reason you couldn’t dry hop with it. Personally I would dry hop with Simcoe and Centennial, but that’s where the fun comes in - experiment with it to find what combinations YOU like. Cheers !
I get no wood dirt fron willamette personally. It makes a great dry hop. You shouldn’t be disappointed. freshhops.com calls it the king of dry hops. Published on the inter web so it must be true.
+1, I’d use some of the Centennial and/or Simcoe along with the Willamette. I’ve dry hopped ambers and pale ales with 1:1 Centennial and Willamette and I really like that combination.
I don’t know Willamette enough to comment on the dzlater’s question (I don’t care for it unless it is fresh). With 4 really good hop varieties in the kettle, IMHO I don’t see the point of introducing it in the dry-hop unless there’s some really smooth blend being worked out.
With HoosierBrew’s suggestion of using Simcoe and Centennial, that’s a really nice combo. Plays nice together.
