First Runnings Cocktail

I recall someone mentioning previously that they mix a sample of first runnings with Scotch or some other liquor. Can you refresh my memory?

Secondly, is there any specific purpose to sampling first runnings?

“Hot Scotchies”, we make ours with the last runnings from the tun and bourbon. Basically a shot of bourbon topped off with 3-4 ounces of warm wort. It’s best served warm.

I use Islay scotch. Its best with high gravity worts. my purpose for sampling first runnings is that they are yummy. You should find a thread under the pub: Hotchy Scotchy.

I always sample my og sample at a minimum. Actually I pretty much taste everything. I even chewed on a hop, once. I think the answer to your question is the same answer why good cooks taste their ingredients along the way.

+1.  Very tasty.
