Bought a six of Full Sail Pale Ale last night on the way to a BBQ because i had never seen it before. A nicely rounded beer, both the flavors and bitterness were really well-balanced and i liked the hop flavor, not sure what they use. I only got to drink 3 of them because other people wanted to try it also but I will definately be buying this again.
I might try the IPA next time to see the difference, but the APA is very close to a session beer.
Had the IPA while on vacation. I was not impressed. The bitterness was OK, but the hop flavor and aroma were practically non-existant. I am wondering whether it was too old. Had it in FL, so that may have been the case.
I like it too. Full Sail’s Pale Ale is m-u-c-h better than their IPA, IMO.
Their website says the following:
“Our Pale Ale has a fresh, hoppy aroma that comes from two (top secret) Northwest hop varieties, while two-row Pale and Crystal malt give it a mild sweetness that finishes clean and crisp.”
I emailed the brewmaster at Full Sail and he responded. I don’t want to post the whole email exchange because i’m not sure if this was for public consumption or not, but this is a snippet:
(Hopefully he won’t mind)
Pale is brewed with 2 row pale and caramel malts and hopped with Cascades and Centennials in the front and finished with Cascades, Centennials, and CTZ’s….(a lot in the whirlpool).
Thanks for sharing. While I may not brew it, I do like knowing what goes into the beer so I can become more attuned to various malt contributions and hop profiles.
