I bought a sixer of this out of curiosity, having never tried a hoppy nitro beer before. Now I need to find 5 other curious drinkers, or one person who actually enjoys flat IPA. Nitro just isn’t a good vehicle for American hops. Even at just 44 IBU, the bitterness seemed a bit rough against the smooth nitro body. Just a clash from every angle, as far as I’m concerned. Can’t recommend this one.
Never been a fan of nitro IPAs.
I bought a six of this, too, regrettably. Its biggest flavor comes from the gas. I was looking forward to some hop flavor or aroma because the label lists several varieties, but alas, I was disappointed.
Sounds awful. Guinness and Beamish are the only two beers I like on nitro. Definitely don’t want an IPA .
I’ve got 5 dusty ones as well and while it is disappointing it wasn’t totally unexpected.
I got 2 free ones, tried warm and cold. Either way I’m glad I did have to pay form them.
I tried a 6 as well, nothing impressive here. I think they were drinkable, and not rough to my tastes, but also really nothing IPA like. I would drink again if handed to me, but will not buy again. I do love the cascading effect though, though as stated, it is wasted on this beer
I wish I had read this thread before buying. Tastes like unbalanced homebrew: too roastily bitter compounded by hop bitterness. The nitro is actually a detriment because this IPA probably would taste better with co2. And it goes flat almost immediately which is like tripping a thief on the run.
So I expect the Samuel Adams “Nitros” will be as equally bad.
I must have been super lucky and had the freshest cans because the ones I had actually had fantastic aroma. Really strong floral aroma. I keep my beer fridge 40-42F and brought the cans to a friends in a little cooler so probably ~50F when I opened them. Maybe that made the difference. The taste was okay, more english/noble flavor than I expected. Definitely a gimmick and not something to seek out, but not that bad.
I have yet to have a nitro IPA that I like. From anyone.
Same here. It just seems to mute the hell out of the hop character. I’ll try their coffee stout and pass on the others.
EDIT - Wrong thread. Thought it was the SA nitro thread when I mentioned the coffee stout.
I kind of like an IPA on nitro from time to time but also realize that it completely takes away from what an IPA should be.
Well I bought a 6 pack. If you live for thick creamy lacing, this is your beer. Especially if you like your IPA watery and one dimensional.
If you follow it with a Leffe Blond, it really makes the Leffe shine!
Did you ever wonder why the next beer poured into a glass that previously had a nitro beer in it has almost as creamy a head and as prominent lacework?
Why is that?
Decided to try a second can of this stuff, after I had a pour of my fresh on tap IPA first. I think they maybe mislabeled it. If Guiness Nitro IPA is an IPA, then Boston Lager is an American Barley Wine, and Negro Modelo is an Imperial Stout.
That’s interesting. I always rinse my glass so never noticed that
