I managed to get a photo from my phone to the forum via tapatalk but am having trouble getting more. Anyway, this is 42 pounds of honey that I harvested from my hives last week. Can’t wait to make some mead and beer with it.
Looks like it. And delicious.
Mead plans? Or adding it to something? What kind of honey?
I would say its wildflower honey. Clover etc. I’m expecting to get more in a couple weeks that will be primarily goldenrod with a bit of buckwheat that I grew.
OK here we go: Honey coming out of extractor, a capped frame, and a frame after removing wax cap with an electric hot knife.
Pete, how many hives do you have for that volume of honey?
That’s a hobby I can respect, but never do. It’s like taking care of thousands of pets. Way too much responsibility for me.
So cool. Just bought some northern Kansas wildflower (spring/summer) and plan to get some of his fall harvest for mead making. Lots of clover and alfalfa in it - almost a cinnamon taste in the raw. Makes a reasonable clover traditional.
I have two hives right now. Probably 70% came from one and the fall harvest will likely be the same ratio.

This is a summer/spring honey. Its got a nice light floral aroma and a bit of spice. I’ll make traditional mead with this and melomels with the fall crop.
Really impressive, Pete. Fresh, pure honey is just great. Unlike a lot of the stuff in stores sold as ‘pure honey’.
Looks like good stuff. I would be willing to bet the mead made from it will be delicious.
Thats awesome!
Best of luck. I seem to be slightly allergic to bees or I would swag at this myself! It’s fascinating!

Yea I swell up like a balloon but no breathing problems. I have stopped being lazy and use all my equipment including gloves. I used to not where gloves for certain tasks because dexterity is helpful and sometimes I would walk out to the hives and forget something and figure if I was just doing a quick check I would do it without protection but not anymore.
Holy crap. I already was happy harvesting 45 pounds of summer honey and now, after thinking its been too dry for fall honey, I checked the hive and I can harvest another 80-100# of fall honey. Its going to be a huge meadmaking season. We also have in the freezer40-50# peaches, 20 or so pounds of raspberries and some elderberries. Here’s some honeycomb I removed from between supers:
