Hop and Brew School

Anybody going to Hopunion Hop & Brew School this year?

http://hopunion.com/hop-and-brew-school/

We signed up about 10 days ago.

Mrs. R asked what I wanted to do for my birthday!

Looks to be perfectly timed with the wet hop season, perhaps.  That should be an interesting set of sessions for nano and homebrewers.

Yeah, no kidding. I’d love to attend that one.

see ya there!  I’m presenting.

They time it to the harvest.  Last year Simcoe was just coming in.

This is an awesome event.  I went a couple years ago and will go again some time.  I highly recommend it!

I’d love to plan a get together for anyone coming into town.  I’m not going to the hop & brew school but just want to see you guys and have a beer together.

I WAS signed up until I got a summons for the Yakima County clerk to serve jury duty. This makes 5 times in the last 12 years that I’ve been gotten my call to serve.

Maybe Steve and I could organize something for an evening.

Bruce

I am thinking about attending next year.

Thank you for your service

I get picked a lot too, I think its because there are only about 50 people in our county who are eligible

I HIGHLY recommend it, Mark.

Denny, what does a decent hotel run in the area?  How long does it take to drive from Portland to Yakima?  I was thinking about piggybacking a trip to Oregon with Hops and Beer School.  I could hit Bend, Eugene, and Portland before driving up to Yakima.

I’m right in the middle. Portland to Hwy 97 is about 100 miles (Biggs Junction) At that point you are about 135 north of Bend and about 75 south of Yakivegas.

We should think about a collaboration brew day, bbq, and bottle share day…

Hopunion has 3 they recommend  that they pick up and drop off at. Susan booked one recommended on the site.

We fly into PDX, stay one night, drive up the Gorge, probably have lunch in Hood River, go to Yakima., Google says 3 hours drive time. Hop School. After that a ~4 hour drive to Bend to see friends. A night in PDX then home.
That last night might be in Hood River, haven’t decided.

That sounds really good.  I hope everyone has the time.  If at all possible, I’d say the day before would work best, but that is up to the attendees.  What say you all?

You had to mention having the time… this year I’m off the day before and could do an afternoon thing.

If we’re talking next year, I could put in for time off. Too soon notice this year.

I plan to attend next year, so you guys are on your own.

IIRC, a hotel is in the %100-125 range,  Maybe  3 hour drive from PDX, down the gorge and up through WA.  Beautiful drive.

On Wed. 9/2 there’s a kickoff BBQ party at Hopunion.
