I just sent this to Pabst Brewing Co

Hello,

As the craft specialty beer segment has taken storm over bland American mega-swill. You guys are poised to succeed if you bring back the “Original Recipes” that the “Real” Ballantines Brewery pre 1975 and before the original brewery was “drawn and quartered” If you could do that, using their methods to extract hop oils you guys would truly be in the “League of Kings” of beers and brewing.

A humble beer aficionado,

I sent it here: http://ballantineale.com/footer/contact-us/

The subject that does not show here is Ballantine IPA and Burton Ale

If we all bugged them maybe just maybe…

I drank a lot of PBR but never anything pre 1978. I laud your courageous email to the company. May they see your wisdom and profit by it!

Cheers!

I remember watching baseball games on TV with my dad, when I was a kid, that were sponsored by Ballantine…

“Take a ring, and then another ring, and then another ring, now you’ve got three rings!
Ballantine! and now it’s premium!
It’s a very special class of beer!”

1950s/60s kitsch for sure.

My 11 year old son and I sing it when we’re driving in the truck where no one can hear us.  We love it because it is sooo stupid!

Be glad this post has no volume!

WWII Pilots & Ballantine Beer

I hope they take your letter seriously but I dont think they will. Pabst beer is shitty and they get away with selling swill because they market it to hipster kids. Pabst “brewing” company doesnt even make their own beer. Its all contract brewed for them

Yup. They brew it here too. Drank loads of the cheap lager in the past. Shiver.

Pabst bought the Primo Beer name too.  Primo is all that one would expect from Pabst.  It’s for people who want to be seen with a can of “Hawaiian” beer in their hand.

Would they take it more seriously if they started getting more letters to that effect? That’s one of the strengths of an Association. If we leverage this forum & the AHA , possibly Zymurgy (with an article about homebrewing Ballantines), to get lots of people to write letters it might get their attention. Anyone want to spearhead that sort of effort?

Right on T, that’s what I am trying to do. They have all the recipes and methods tucked away in their vaults. They have the money and the means of they thought it would be a viable income stream which, imho I think it would. Also Pabst handed the Ballantine XXX off to SAB/Miller to brew it for them. Hmm, APA(African Pale Ale)…a new category!!!

I keep trying to shoot that moving smiley face, but I can’t hit it.

Are you certain about that, Bob?  Pabst has changed hands quite a bit.  They may have that info around, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Ha, I’ve been wondering what that moving text tag was good for

Well DC, I certainly hope SOMEONE might still have it locked away somewhere!

We can hope, but I ain’t holdin’ my breath!  ;D

Remember Jay B… it’s American Oak and you HAVE to stay away from it for a whole year!  ::slight_smile:

The blue ribbon in Pabst Blue Ribbon was the award Pabst won at the World’s Columbia Expostion 1893 aka the Chicago World’s Fair

It’s really sad that we have to associate the legend of Ballantine with Pabst

What’s this??? PBR bashing??? Shame on you all! >:(

It just evens out the strength of your defense of them, Chumley!

I drank quite a bit of PBR as a youngster, and found it to be my favorite variety of ‘bland American mega-swill’.  Someone should really think about getting trademark protection for that phrase
