Does anyone have any experience with Imperial L05? I believe it’s the same strain as wlp810 or wy2112. I can only find a couple brief references about L05 being a slow fermenter and am just curious what I should expect.
I used a 2 month old pack of L05 in a 1.2L vitality starter, pitched into a 1.052 OG amber at 15.5C. After 12 hours I’m seeing the beginning signs of activity… Anyone with experience with this strain willing to share advice is appreciated.
I have a pack I am about to use but haven’t yet. Though I am not sure of the accuracy, I got this from Todd at Hop Heaven:
I assume you mean Ted?
Oops! My apologies. Thx Danny!
;D
18 hours after pitching, solid activity at 15.5C. Switching to blowoff tube as krausen reaching neck of carboy and steady bubbling in airlock, one of the most satisfying feeling after a brew day. Second only to drinking the results of your labor when you tap the keg.
So, the only references to this yeast strain I could find on forums dealt with slow initial fermentation and a long primary period. Based on what I’m seeing, this strain can kick off a healthy fermentation cycle early on after pitching. Being a lager strain described to perform well into the 60’s, I’m hoping that by starting at 60F I get a clean profile from this yeast.
