Kilt wearing

It’s tax return season. We are getting a pretty good return this year, so Holly gave me the green light to get a good kilt. In fact, she said she really doens not even mind if I wear it out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not into kilts just to be the “goofy guy”. I honestly think they look cool, and are EXTREMLY comfortable. Once I get it, I do plan on wearing it, just as I would my jeans or anything else. The one I wear now is just pretty much for brew days. Holly made it for me a few years ago for a ren fair. It’s nice, but could easily be mistaked for a Catghoilc school girl skirt.  :-[
I’m down to two cghoices. The one from Utilikilts. It costs 330$. I am having a hard time justifying that for a kilt. I havea ton of suits, and do not even pay that for them. I wait for a good sale. Found this other one on e-bay. It’s similar. Not quite the quality, and it does not have the removable pockets, which would be great for all the flying I do. Just pop them off and place in the TSA bins. But that’s a lot of coin.

Can someone explain to me the fascination with Kilts?

If you aren’t Scottish - should you really be wearing one?  I didn’t think so - but many seem to be these days.

A few years ago, I felt that way, but the more I look into the kilt culture, I feel that way less and less. I feel if I do ever run into a Scotsman, he would be proud that I am honering his culture by donning the kilt.

As far as the “fascination with kilts”… Don;t knock it till you try it. Seriously. The comfort is unmatched. Summer time, no sweating, no chaffing. Nice cool breezes. Personally, I think they look cool as crap. And have you see4n the pockets on these things!!! I dare you to find a pair of pants that will comfortably hold 20 bottles of beer!  ;D
And, anytime I’ve wore my kilt out, I get nothing but positive comments on it. Not once have I taken any sort of crap for it. Nothing but high fives and fist bumps. Are they for everyone? No. It takes a certain guy to pull it off. But give it a go, and see for yourself.

If you can afford it you should probably have one tailor-made.

And monkey’s might fly outta my butt!!  ;D

No problem with a kilt, tailor made or not!  ;D

Yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeah, no.

I have no fascination with kilts.

On the other hand, an authentic pair of Lederhosen is something that I do have a fascination with.  Add the full country mode look to it.  Yeah, I lived in Germany, so that is it.  Just big $.

Anybody remember the Smothers Brothers?
I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy.
I see by your outfit that you’re a cowboy, too.
We see by our outfits that we are both cowboys.
If you get an outfit you can be a cowboy, too.

I have a utilikilt and love it, it is VERY comfortable.  But $330?  What the hell, mine was like 1/3 of that.  What is so special about the one you’re looking at?

I am looking at the survivalist. There are cheaper ones they make, one for 200$. But ,I really like this one.

I bet you can’t tell that I like kilts

Man, the price has really gone up!  I got them to rush mine in exchange for a keg of IPA for a party they were having (they were just down the street from me).

The ebay jobbie for $60 iz more my speed. Otherwise I’d prolly go for the “original” but damn that’s pricey! And it’s basically tailored of you need it.

I like.  Will have to consider my neighbors watching me mowing the lawn in one. They’re not as accepting down here. ;D

That survival kilt looks fantastic. I might have to get one myself. Spendy, but hey- worth it. While the ebay kilt is a lot cheaper, it’s a bid for a pre-order on a kilt from a random dude on the internet. Utilikilts have been around for quite some time, and seem a lot more trustworthy. Personally, I’d go UK.

That kilt is all over e-bay. I just grabbed the first link I saw. Think this is the direction I’m leaning. As much as I want the UK, that is a bunch of coin to spend on a man-skirt.  ;D

Funny! Very Funny! You da Man!!!

The same could be said for, say, bolo ties or Cowboy boots. If you aren’t actually on a horse, you shouldn’t be wearing them!

I got mine tailor-made from Rocky at USA Kilts. Highly, highly recommend him. But yeah, they’re expensive. But you get the whole shebang (Prince Charlie outfit), it’s what I got for my wedding: http://www.usakilts.com/store/premiumkilt2_packpage.php

Here’s a few pics from our wedding.

Although I gotta say the piper beat me out for most outrageous kilt utilization:

Uh, yeah.  Expensive.  But awesome too, some day I might have budget for that! ;D
