Looking Forward to Fall

The AC went out at the house, so I found myself looking forward to cooler weather.

Harvest, Football, and big, badass beers!

I have an Imperial Stout conditioning and will start an Octoberfest (w/ roasted corn, ancho, and smoked malt) in 2 weeks.

Anybody else have big beers aging for the cold months?

O fest is patiently waiting in the serving/lagering freezer and will be for another couple months.  The wee heavy I brewed in April should be ready to bottle any time now and will take another month or so to carb up.

Hoptoberfest fermenting. Belgian Barleywine will (hopefully be brewed tonight). IIPA on deck to be brewed in September to be ready for hunting season.

I’ve got a bourbon Imperial stout waiting for some cooler weather. I made it for last winter, but it turned out kinda rough so I didn’t drink it. I made it before I dialed in my new brewing setup, so it was rough around the edges. I had a bottle in May to make sure it wasn’t spoiled, and it tasted a lot better than I remembered it being.

Apparently Fall is already here.  My local bottle shop just posted on Facebook that they just received this year’s Shipyard Pumpkinhead, Smashed Pumpkin, and Spaten Octoberfest.  What’s coming next week…Christmas beers?  ::slight_smile:

I was really hoping to get an Octoberfest going to have for Oct 1st, but time is definately running out.  Too many projects around the house eating into my brewing time.  >:(

I’ve got a Scottish 70/-, Robust Porter (if it ends up being salvageable) brewed up.  Going to sneak in a Schwarzbier before school starts.  I haven’t done the math, but I’m pretty sure there is an inverse relationship between temperature and the SRM of my beers  ;)  I’ll have lots of IBA still and whatever is left of my Am. Wheat and Pils - but that won’t be much

I don’t have any big beers waiting but I too am looking forward to the cooler weather.  Standing over a boiling pot of wort in 100+ degree heat is never a fun thing!

If you can get it going within the next week or two you’ll be fine.  I’m planning one very soon.

This is the time of year where brewing almost requires a comfy chair and refreshing, low-gravity beer in-hand.

Double-win: Brew session beer, keg session beer, save yeast, have session beer AND yeast ready for Big beer brewday!

Yeah. I may have to call in sick next week  :-[

what are “cold months”?

I am working on a beer i am calling “emancipation”  i have no idea what it will be exactly but the og target will be 1.100. this is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 100th anniversary of the emancipation proclomation.  in otherwords, my 50th birthday. (i was born on the 100th anniversary)  will post when i get something but ideas anyone.  i am thinking of something with a bunch of vienna and munich to high gravity.  as the day is approaching it will be a lager but only with short lagering period.

He must mean the mid sixties. ;D

My AC always chooses the height of summer- labor day etc to conk out. Therefore I keep some window units around so at least I can be comfy until the central air is fixed. Have a 5k in the master bedroom all the time and it keeps it nice and cool.

I’m doing my first O-fest soon. Couple weeks maybe? Won’t be long and the Octoberfests will be on the shelves. Seems like there are more and more every year.

Tell me about it. I work in an unairconditioned warehouse boiling 7-10 bbls and have to unload a hot mash tun by hand. Temps have rearely been below 90 and have often been over 95 and a full week over 100. We are having serious issues with our glycol system overloading. We have a sprinkler on the roof and a mister inside which helps a lot, but still hot as hell. I hate to wish my life away but I can’t wait until fall.

that’s called a sesquicentennial

th

thanks, i knew it had a name but couldn’t remember.  it is really just a birthday beer for me and i wish i would have thought of it sooner so i could age it longer.  the gravity target is just to represent the years between the actual event and my birthday.  hopefully i can evolve this over the next few years and it won’t be rushed.
