Lyles Golden Syrup

I have decided to try and build an Old Speckled Hen beer.
Anyone have any information to share about the flavors
that this syrup may impart to a beer. I wonder if it is
the flavor entity in this recipe?

I’ve used in some barelywine that turned out really nice, but I never brewed the recipe without it for comparison.  The plain syrup tastes like a nice caramelized sugar.  I’ve heard it’s used in Old Speckeld Hen clones, but haven’t tried it.  Let us know how it turns out, my wife loves that beer.

I’ve used it in a few different beers. I think a little bit of the flavor comes through, but I don’t think it would be a defining characteristic. I should try the same recipe with table sugar and Lyles for comparison, though.

The plain syrup is great on ice cream!

I’ve found that  Lyle’s, regular table sugar,  and the straight corn syrup I buy at the Asian supermarket all produce pretty much  identical results, at least in the beers I’ve used them in.
I’m not convinced that the significantly higher cost of the Lyle’s is reflected in the results versus the other substitutes.
