Malts malts malts

After having a look round Google, without much success, I was wondering if there is some good info on diferent types of malts, like what do dextrin malts give etc etc to understand differences between them. I have a feeling the Malt book available in Amazon is not going to help much.

Thanks!

This will get you started.

I haven’t read the Malt book. Reading descriptions on maltsters sites are helpful.

Randy Mosher has a lot of info. on malts in, Mastering Homebrew: The Complete Guide to Brewing Delicious Beer. He also gets into recipe formulation in a very interesting way.

Here’s another good reference, on the taste of different malts, albeit it a bit dated.

But you can pick it up pretty cheap.

Malt is a good book to. It isn’t tables of flavor characteristics but it is in depth about the process of making malt from growing the barley, to selecting barley to the effects of the malting process.

+1.  I have not read this book at length yet but it is obviously an encyclopedia with millions of bits of useful data.  An unbelievable amount of research went into this one book.

Learn to read malt analysis sheets.

you can learn it a lot in Wiki

This looks very interesting. Will have a read…!

In regards with the book ‘Mastering Homebrew’.  I’m afraid there is going to be 3 pages on malt and the rest is about info I already know, not sure if it’s worth the buy…?
