My last negra modello

I swear they are adding some back sweetening to this beer now. Used to be my “go to” beer at Mexican restaurants. Can’t even finish one now. What the hell?

Man, I agree. It’s always been my go to at a Mexican place - the lesser of a bunch of evils. It actually used to be pretty solid IMO, but not so much lately.

Twenty years ago it was a real beer. A cruel simulacrum of what it once was.

Someone remove it from bjcp then

I would imagine it will be removed when the new guidelines come out. I know they are working on the new guidelines as we speak, but it is certainly a slow process.

I’m looking forward to it. I hope they add Black IPA, IIIPA, and IIIIPA

Pacifico is my go to. Or Bohemia. Haven’t had negra modelo in many years.

XX or stay thirsty my friends

Yes, but these aren’t listed as great examples of a style, yet not being such. If it’s been sucking for 20 years, seems like enough time to get it out of the book so poor saps like me aren’t calibrating to it.

Negra Modello was far from world class, but it used to be passable. This is a recent development. I used to order one when I went to my local burrito joint around the corner from the brewery. The last 2 times I ordered one I could not finish them. It’s not my tastes that have changed. It’s the beer. There is a cloying sweetness there now that wasn’t there even 3 months ago.

Whenever I buy a six pack of NM at least one tastes heavily metallic. Don’t buy much at all anymore. Prefer Bohemia.

NM used to be a fair compromise with people who weren’t into craft beer. Now there are enough good options that I can find something locally produced to fill that void. It’s too bad its standards are sliding.

If I find myself stuck drinking Mexican beer I try to track down a Victoria.

Just because a beer is listed in the commercial examples does not mean it is a 50 beer. I’m not sure why so many assume it. It just means it is representative of the style.

I need to revisit NM, because I haven’t found it overly sweet. Of course I have not had one in a year or two either.

Make Yellowhammer Vienna then…

I remember it being fairly roasty years ago and agree that now it is less roasty and more sweet.  Definitely not the same.

I really don’t think anyone here was saying it was a 50 or even a 40. I just used to think it went good with my burrito! I’ll try the Bohemia next time.

Not a Dos Equis fan. Sorry.

I don’t know if it’s my changing perceptions or NM has evolved in it’s flavor. It seems different these days as opposed to years past. Then again I can’t do a side-by-side blind tasting. Dunno…

NM is usually my go to at Mexican restaraunts. How recent of a change are we talking about? I haven’t noticed anything different but its been a few weeks since I had one…

My other go to’s are Pacifico and XX Amber as far as Mexican beer is concerned.

Two in the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Damn. Haven’t been to my local (non-chain) Mexican restaurant in a while, but NM was my go-to. Guess its back to prickly pear margaritas.
