After 2 days of not knowing anything, the Pentagon has concluded the “Mystery Missile” was in fact an airplane leaving a contrail…case closed.
I know jetliner contrails, and that ain’t one!
So . . what do you think?
Just from the few seconds when I saw that weirdly red trail I was struck by how much it looked like a rocket launch. But after looking at it again for longer this appears to be a matter of the perspective and an airplane contrail. Depth of field and camera angle.

We may never know…but likely a jet.
Take it from somebody who lived in Central Florida, saw hundreds of rocket/missle launches at all hours of night and day, under all sorts of lighting conditions, over 50 years - that is exactly what a rocket/missle launch looks like. I’d be more inclined to believe it was swamp gas or a weather balloon, than believe it was an airplane.
My bet is that it was a Trident SLBM launched from an USN Ohio Class sub. The time and location were chosen to send a message to those who might think that the USA is becoming soft and weak, that we are not.

I bet it was a North Korean submarine outfitted with ICBM’s. They launched a missile back at themselves so they could declare war on America but nobody really noticed so they gave up and went back to eating tree bark.

Airplane. It does look like a rocket, but rockets don’t move that slowly.
Yeah . . I’ve looked at it several times now and seems most likely to be the moistest jet contrail ever! That and there were no pireps of anything out of the ordinary.
Odd how the FAA could not see whatever it was on their radars . . makes me feel safer! :-\

Has to be a SLBM. Well, doesn’t -have- to be but certainly seems likely. I take Navy/Pentagon denials with a Utah Salt Flats quantity of NaCl…“sure, wasn’t us, we know nothing about it…” Seems to me if they knew nothing about it, they’d be that much more likely to freak out and come up with a cover story to claim it -was- them.
Could of course have been a nork sub trying to spook us with a test launch. That of course assumes a nork sub is capable of trolling all the way over here without springing a leak, and that is not a minor assumption.
Although, looking at this recent news article, in context, I wonder:

It was Unidentified, It was Flying, and it was an Object!!!
