NHC Updates

OK, So I’m new to all this competition stuff. I saw someplace that at least two regions maxxed out the 750 entry limit. My question is - is there any ever info posted about total # of entries, # entries per category, regional results/scoring and stuff like that? Or do you just have to wait to be notified if one of your entries makes it past the prelims?  It’d be interesting to see how the categories are represented from region to region.

Thanks for any insight.

If not there needs to be now so that adjustments can be made.

Certainly cant have areas like the mid-West and Northeast maxed out while another region is sitting at 500

After all the regions are done judging (2 are on the weekend of April 24-25), and the results are submitted and verified, results per region will be posted.  The results are first through third in each region, which advance to the finals.  You will get your score sheets mailed to you.  If you advance the AHA will contact you with information on the next steps.

Good Luck!

the first round results will show info like:
for each category: number of entries, top score, low score, median score

you can compare those against each other from region to region

the final results do show how many entries in each category for the nation - last year it was about 330 or 350 entries for IPA and Stout, American Ales were up there as well and the rest went down from there (stout may have been like 370?)

the first round results will be posted after all regions have judged and submitted their reports, there are still a couple of weekends worth of judging to go, so the results should be up the first week of May

if you place in the first round you’ll get an envelope from the NHC containing 2nd round bottle labels for your beers, they’ll have new registration numbers so don’t use extra labels from the first round, that envelope will have all the mailing info, but it’s probably on the comp page somewhere

For us uber compgeeks, there’s also an independent who for the last several years has complied all of the stats you mentioned to help everyone make sense out of it all. Although, these stats are totally “unofficial” & “unapproved” …we are forever indebted.

*Note: These are still last year’s stats!

Thanks guys! Looking forward to it all. Cheers

On May 2nd they will announce all of the first round winners.

that is beyond impressive

Stout was at 396 entries

(and congrats on placing 8th!)

Can someone help me understand this page

Specifically the 2nd round…?

UGH
Nevermind, figured it out…

I didn’t even know that list existed.

It’s nice to know when your nationally ranked.

It’s fun looking over all of the numbers. Thanks for the kudos!

Where will this info be posted? On the event website? Or somewhere on this forum?

It should be posted here or thereabouts:

2010 AHA NHC
AHA/BJCP Sanctioned Competitions - American Homebrewers Association

Canadian results are posted

http://www.alesclub.com/index.php/component/content/article/1-latest-news/109-2010-results

congrats to the advancing Canadians (who won’t notice until the Stanley Cup playoffs are over)

LOL at the hockey reference but it Gary Bettman takes anymore teams from Canada they wont have many left…

This is a change from last year correct?
Waited until all regions were done to post any results.

Same as last year.

The AHA didn’t post these, and has no control over them. Those results won’t appear anywhere on the AHA NHC site until after all regions are up.

The ALES club posts them as the results from their annual comp. For the most part the Ales comp just happens to be the qualifiers for 2nd round NHC (the Ales comp had some combined categories - and only awarded 1 through 3 for the combined, there may be people that won’t show on that, but will move on because in their individual category they scored over 30 and placed from 1 to 3)

Was last years posting of results held up by the ALES or was it another region?

I think you’re right. As I remember it, the Canadian region was the last region to go to ‘complete’ on the status page.

Guess the message was sent
AND
Delivered

Yeah…those Canadian brewers made me wait for my 27 point American Stout
