Northern Brewer?

What ya got?

Bittering/Aroma? Both? Beer Styles other than Cali Common?

Description from Williams where I purchased them:
A strong fragrant hop with a rich rough-hewn flavor and aroma, ideal for steam-style beers and ales. Northern Brewer has a unique mint-like evergreen flavor.

there are 2 other regional listing for NB as well.

Enjoy,
Jeff

Northern Brewer is THE hop for Anchor Steam. Also used with centennial and cascade in Janet’s Brown.

Gotcha. Most decriptions I see relate it back to being minty/woody. Not sure what I should use it in but it seems like I have a lot of options. If I brewed more often I would do a SMASH with it…

Northern Brewer was a popular hop in the nineties.  It has a distinct flavor.

NB has that woody+minty thing going on. Pearle also has a minty note, but is less woody. NB was one of Pearles parents, so that mint thing carried through.

I agree with the rustic/woody notes from Northern Brewer.  I find it to be a good bittering hop and will lend quite a distinct/unique flavor and aroma to beers so be careful when choosing those additions per style.

I’ve used it as late additions in my black lagers. Love it.
