Hey, no other way to get this answered but to simply post it…
I intend to get a chest freezer to turn into a keezer. I see everything looks good on it, but there is a cable going from the back of the freezer near the hinge going into the lid. i did a bit of research and i am fairly sure it is simply the power for the light in the lid inside.
when i separate the lid from the freezer to add the ~5 or 6” wood board, i’ll have to figure out a way to disconnect that wire or stretch it out if possible.
There should be a plug for the light cord on the lid (yes it is the power cord for light in the lid) that is held to the lid with a small screw. You can just take the screw out and you should be able to detach the light cord. I would tape up the end of the cord and maybe fasten it to the back of the freezer. I don’t see why you would need to light in the inside of the keezer, but if you want to, you could cut the cable and splice a small piece of wire to extend it. Remember to disconnect the power from the keezer before doing this to avoid electric shock and make sure that the conductors are insulated from each other. and the connection is completely taped on the outside.
ok - in my personal keezer thread - i intend to make a tap lock -
i have access to a lot of materials - but for simplicity, ease and minimalism im simply going to make two wooden arms that extend from the tap side of the collar on either side of my taps, fasten them in with double sided screws etc and put either a stainless steel 1/8”x 1/8” bar through or some other similar useful thing that tightly locks the taps into place from moving forward.
i want to make it so it is fully key-lockable but my main concern is just ensuring no one knocks a tap forward somehow and beer spills everywhere. but key-lockable especially for about 3 or 4 years from now i think.
i started stealing beers and other alcohol since about age 12 maybe 13. it wasnt a good idea.
if i hadnt maybe i wouldnt even be on this site now!
oh - but any thoughts on this?
i dont want the individual tap locks because it looks like a pain to unlock each tap with a key everytime i want some beer
The individual tap locks are also expensive, as I recall.
I’m in a similar position, except that I don’t children to worry about – only my wife’s cats. I envision them eventually knocking a tap open and draining gallons of beer onto the floor.
I was thinking about possibly a board with holes drilled for the handles, which I’d set over the handles and secure to the shanks so that the handles can’t easily move forward.
I’m trying to avoid screwing something to the wood in which the faucets are mounted because of aesthetic reasons. We’ll see if I’m successful.
Hey, it depends on how you want it to look ie. fancy/minimalist/basic, how secure you want it to be and so on.
I think im going to put it together within the next 2 weeks, though everything seems incredibly busy all the time and i will try to post my idea and pics and how it worked out.
my aim is pretty minimalist but not ugly or crappy looking, and also futureproofing it with the potential to put a single lock in it to lock all taps at once.
