S-189 Warm?

The weather might allow me to do one more lager in the seasonal refrigerator known as the garage. If I get a warm snap, will S-189 do OK?

I’m not certain, but I’ll bet it turns out good.  I will eventually give it a try warm.  The last time I used it, ferm was down about 53 F or so and I was very pleased.  Very clean, zero sulfur or diacetyl.

I agree with Dave.  Haven’t tried it but probably worth a shot.  What temps do you anticipate.

It should be ok. The range is a daytime high in the high 50s, lows at or near freezing. The garage is attached, but should stay 50F or below.

One time I brewed late in the year, the weather suddenly changed to highs in the 80s despite the predictions. I was not happy with that batch. My conical is what I will use for temperature control is a cold garage, temp controller with themowrap around the conical.

I’ve fermented S-189 at 63*F. It made a great beer.

Thanks, i will brew another lager soon.

I recently brewed a Maibock with S-189 at 54F and I’ll keg it this week. When tasting a sample for FG it was great without any off flavors. I think it will be a great beer!

Thanks Kenn

Your welcome and I think this yeast would be fine at a bit higher temp maybe 56-60F? Maybe higher as BrewBama was at 63F.

How did the march lager work out? The weather nowadays is so fickle and way warmer than I was a kid, it’s hard to say what temps I’ll have, but I intend to brew a bunch with S-189 over the next while.

It was nice. The weather stayed cool, so it fermented in the low 50s.
