Sea Oats

Has anyone ever tried to brew with these.

They are edible(actually in survival guides if you are stuck on a beach) and smell wonderful all dried out.  Just need to get therm milled.

They’re protected grasses here in Florida.
Wouldn’t condone making a beer out of it unless you’re the type to pair it with sea turtle soup and manatee steaks.
Wiki says:  “Sea oats are a protected grass in most states along the East Coast. Picking or disturbing sea oats is punishable by fine in Georgia and Florida.”

shhhhh…Mmm turtle soup.

My wife loves photos of sea oats, but they are off limits on most beaches I’ve been on.  And they have very few grain heads per plant, i think it would take acres to get enough to brew a batch.

ROTF! ;D

Dunes and sea oats are so Atlantic Coast.  Sometimes I miss the fun things I used to do among the Playalinda sea oats back in the day…  They don’t grow here.

I’ve made many batches of mead using Playalinda prickly pears. They share the dunes with sea oats.  Prickly pears grow here too, but they are not Space Shuttle energy infused like the ones I picked at Playalinda.
