Storage of Grain

What type of storage bins do you guys us to store your grains? are any of the rubbermaid cereal containers good?

Thanks guys

I use 1 quart or .5 gallon mason jars for small amounts and 5-7 gallon buckets for large amounts.

I use the Rubbermaid cereal containers for my specialty grains and vittle vaults for my base malts.  both work great.

I keep mine in the sacks with the tops rolled closed. They sit in a dark hallway closet. Specialty grains and whatnot, are in the bags they came in, in storage bins in the same closet.

I use these for my 50 lb sacks

and for my speacial grains I use the rectangular ziplock containers.

I did this until I opened a nearly full sack of munich to find it crawling with cockroaches. now, they are sealed.

It was the mice that took over the house that sealed it for me.

Damn Davis cockroaches. Can’t walk downtown at night without a crunch beneath your feet.

Not too many roaches here. Plus, who goes outside? Too hot.

There sure are in the RG Valley.

Rubbermaid cereal container for specialty malts and Gamma lid buckets from walmart for base malts. No problems love them

I keep bulk grain in the sack it came in. I put specialty grains in recycled spaghetti sauce jars.

A friend keeps his bulk grains in 5 gallon buckets from Lowes.

thanks guys, i found rubbermaid cereal containers 3 for 14.99. goin with those

If they don’t seal really tight I use foam weather stripping to make it good

Vittles vaults for base malt (2 row, Pilsner and MO) sacks and 5 lb or smaller Munich, Vienna & crystal and like malts in their original packaging- the kind of VV that have the spin on/off lids with Gamma seals and can hold a full sack; then Rubbermaid tub for bags of flaked grains and dark roast, rice hulls, etc…

I have heard of the metal trash cans used, also (for those place with sharp toothed critters) - I would definitely keep the grains in their original packaging with that set up!

2 buckets per 55lb sack.

In the original sacks, spun closed, inside big Rubbermaid bins. Mice can and will chew right through the grain sacks. I don’t like any headspace above the grain; I think it makes it go rancid faster.

I use the Vittle Vaults also.  I would like to figure out a way to flush them with CO2, though.

I buy bulk 2-row and store it in two 5-gallon food-grade buckets with Gamma Seal Lids (Amazon.com).

I keep my specialty grains, malts and adjuncts in Better Homes and Gardens Square Flip-Tite Storage Container (Robot or human?) that hold 5 lbs of grain.
