Trick-or-treat

Happy Halloween Homebrewers!

I used to love this day as a kid.

Do kids even go house to house trick or treating anymore?

Maybe it is easier to go to the mall and load up, or have a trunk or treat at the church parkinglot.
That way you can maximize your candy, and not have to do much.
Are kids just fat and lazy now?  ::slight_smile:

My youngest still goes house to house. Call me old fashioned but i’m anti-trunk or treat.

Mine is going out tonight with his friends from the neighborhood (first year a parent isn’t tagging along).  Round trip he’ll probably do about 2 miles of walking.  We probably get about 100-120 “kids” each year ( I use the word “kids” loosely because some have more facial hair than I do  :o )

My kids will be out in full force walking the neighborhood. I’m tempted to have a keg at the front door to hand beer out to parents.

I didn’t grow up in a neighborhood, so we pretty much just drove to my grandparents and aunts/uncles like any other holiday. We’re in a similar situation now, so well just be driving to friends and family in the area with my son. He’s three now so we may take him door to door in someone’s neighborhood just so he can get the experience.

We get 1,000 kids.  It is insane.  It will be raining steadily throughout the evening so we’ll see if that reduces turnout.

I like this idea a lot! May just do that myself.

Holy crap!

We only get a few at our house, usually 10 to 12 kids and shut down when they are almost as tall as me and aren’t wearing costumes.
The family across the street decorates their whole yard weeks in advance for Halloween then turns it all off and goes somewhere else on the evening of the event.
More Reece’s peanut butter cups for me.

We’re taking our little one (Almost 3 now) for the first real trick or treat trip. just up the block and back, maybe hit three or four houses. We got him a tiny treat pail so he can’t get too much.

He’s gonna be a fire engine

Me too.  I live in a subdivision and nearly everybody has school age kids - that’s the scary part of Halloween for me. We buy a sane amount of candy to give out and when it’s gone, show’s over for us. But the dogs go insane.  I swear I’d rather go to the dentist.  :frowning:

Our neighbor throws a party every year before we all head out trick-or-treating w/ the kids.  Our group usually has about 20-30 kids and it’s a safe fun time.  Our neighborhood really gets into Halloween with some great decorations and many turn their garages into mini haunted houses.  Many groups and families will come to our neighborhood to do their trick-or-treating so there is probably over 1,000 kids running around the neighborhood throughout the evening.

My daughter is 4 now and will be able to keep up w/ the bigger kids in the group a little better.  Heck, she’s already been trick-or-treating a couple times this week.  Once at the “Boo at the Zoo” event and last night during story time at the library.

I’m not kidding.  Afterwards the block gets together for food and beer.

I’ll be out walking with my 4 year old daughter. We’ll go around 3 miles. She can walk that far no problem.

You would be my hero! What’s on tap?

We live in the middle of nowhere and the people around here don’t have kids.  I haven’t seen a trick or treater in over 20 years.

Same here, youngest neighbor kid is in college.

We get quite a few…but I’ll be out with my grandson (4yr old) this year. Looking forward to being with the little guy this year. Hopefully, I’ll run into someone with a homebrew.

Over 10 years  here… +1/2

After living in places that never saw more than 1 or 2 per year I lost the spirit. Now that I’m in a place where we get lots of ToTers I find that I hide in the garage with my kegs and freezers.

My wife said never again, after dealing with a bunch of snotty and ungrateful kids last year. We’re turning off the lights and going out to dinner.

My mother hates trick-or-treat and actually gave out foil-wrapped rocks one year. I’m still amazed we didn’t get any broken windows out of the deal. Now she lets my dad handle things  ;D
