I mentioned in a kegging question that I bought a bunch of stuff from a restaurant that was going out of business. Based on the lack of response, I’m guessing no one knew what I was describing so here are some pictures of the stuff I bought.
First thing I bought was this large kegerator. I’m guessing it will hold at least 6 cornies. I think it held two 1/2 barrel kegs and 3 1/4 barrel kegs. Not sure what I’m going to do with it cause it’s too big for my house. Paid $350 for it - good deal or not?
Here’s a close-up of the taps, there is a 3 tap tower and a 2 tap tower with creamer taps.
I also got some kegs and the fittings I was asking about are these. I may convert these to cornie fittings if I can’t get these to work (love having a friend with a machine shop…)
Also got a mixed bag of kegs that have been in the restaurant for at least 2 years (since it closed). Mostly wanted the gas tank.
The last buy (and by far the heaviest) was this bottle cooler that I plan to yank the racks out of and make into a sweet cornie lagering cooler. Not sure how many cornies it will fit but I’m betting I can get 10 in there easily. Paid $400 for it which was too much but I got a stainless steel sink thrown into the deal for nothing so I’m ok with that. Also got another stainless wash sink, back splash, side table and spray head for $50.
So, I’m done my Christmas shopping early this year (well, except for that charcuterie book I want)…
And this is why you are “Brewer of the Week”. Nice score. I do wonder what they will do to your electric bill though. Maybe you can score some solar panels somewhere ;D
What do you mean? According to you above, you just set it anywhere and it’s good to go…
The german kegs are proving to be a challenge. The tap that I have doesn’t seem to want to fit. I’m gonna guess that its an A style and the kegs are M style. So, we will be pulling the tops/spears and making caps for them and put them to use as lagering kegs. Gonna have to siphon out of them into a cornie for serving but that’s ok since it will keep at least 4 cornies from being used for lagering. Or, I may drill and tap them and try to put cornie fittings on them.
Thanks all, the approval of peers is what I live for.
Great deal! You can return most of those kegs to your local liquor stores and get a deposit back. In my area, for those six kegs, I would get $300.00 back in deposits. But I do like the idea of fermenting in the 1/4 barrels.
We took one of the german slip ons apart. I’m really thinking of just having some plastic caps made that screw on and using them lagering tanks. I figure I can add some generic threaded fittings pretty easily and then transfer in and out of them under CO2. The idea would be to transfer from the fermenter, carbonate and store in these 1/4 barrels and then transfer to another sanitized keg for serving/bottling. Hopefully then I can have clean beer with no sediment that I can transport. I hate when I move a keg, even slightly some times, and then I have to wait and waste beer while it re-settles.
That’s what I was hoping. I know a couple guys that have “man caves” in their garages/barn that would be big enough to handle something like that. Problem is, do you need 5 taps all serving Busch or Blue? These guys are hardcore crap beer drinkers.
I did have this other silly idea of putting it on wheels and trying to see if anyone was interested in renting it for parties. Might work, might be a pain in the arse.
