Oh no…looks like it’s going to be one of the East Coast vs West Coast rapper things.
I love the comments on the article of people from the East coast using Redhook as their example of being better than the West Coast 
I’m definately East coast but think the West Coast has much more to offer. But don’t forget the best beer in America a couple years ago ( Kate The Great from The Portsmouth Brewery ) is so east coast you can see the ocean from the brewery. Also, NH is listed #1 in the country for per capita beer sales…too bad most of it is ButtWiper.

Seems like exactly 30 years ago and I don’t remember IPA coming out with any distribution until I saw it in Buffalo, NY around 2000 or so… ;D

Due to the fact that the craft beer movement started on the West Coast, they should be doing good. They got the head start. 
The North Coast has pretty good beer these days.
There are two new breweries near me opening up about 15 miles apart that are trying to rectify the NJ craft beer problem ;D
I’m saying Sierra Neveda did not have a beer named IPA on the market in distribution until around 2000. I believe they had one, just not anywhere other than local. Celebration has long been thought of as an IPA, but it certainly is not 30 years old.
My point being the author needs to learn a little about styles and a lot about facts
After visiting Portland two summers ago, I have to say that the West is the best. However, like others stated there are many other great breweries all over.
The IPA they had in 2000 was retired. People on the West Coast didn’t get it. It was a British IPA.
I think you’re doing just fine as long as you don’t live in the South. ;D

Cool map, I haven’t seen that. Thanks Sean. It might need updating though, we’re pushing 150 breweries in WA, with fewer than 7 million people. That qualifies us for 20+ status.
We’re at a little less than 10 million and 53 craft breweries with a few more set to open. Guess we need to be a shade darker as well
You’re right, it’s from the BA’s 2008 membership, so it’s getting a little long in the tooth.
Definitely more breweries in the North.

Michigan should change to a darker color soon. The state is gaining breweries quickly, and was the only state to lose population in the last census. We are gaining on the numerator and the denominator!

I think it is fantastic that we (here in the US)
seem to be trending back toward more and more local breweries
almost everywhere.
Interesting that in bluesmans map, the south has a caveat of being “bourbon country”
