Wyeast 2206-Bavarian Lager for a Pilsner

I’ll have some 2206 slurry from a Winter Ale I plan to brew this weekend.  It seems to be more for darker beers, but anyone have experience with this in a lighter beer?  Am I just silly to try this?  I have a Czech Pilsner slated as my next lager.

Dave

I’ve used it many times for a German pils with great results.  It also makes a great maibock.  Don’t get too hung up on it being “only” for dark beers.

Or should I brew the Czech Pils first since it will be a lower gravity and use that slurry for the Winter Lager?  I think I just answered my own question, so can I use 2206 for a light lager?

Edit: posted same time as above…

Thanks Denny!  I was hoping someone would say that!

It isn’t the best choice for making a very very dry lager, so if your pilsners lean more toward the Czech (or - horrors - American) style, you might want to use something like 2124 or 2035.

That said, though, 2206 is my favorite all-around lager yeast.

Last time I used 2124 it stalled at 1.030.  And that was with a 5l starter.  I had to throw some 2112 slurry in to finish it out.  Called it my CzechSteamer.  Honestly tasted really good although I could never duplicate it!

I think I’m going to go for it with the 2206.
