Adventures in Homebrewing is Closing Tomorrow.

Adventures in Homebrewing was my go to place. Word from employees is that they are closing tomorrow at end of business. They were purchased a few months ago by the company that owns Northern Brewer and Midwest.

Glad I cashed out my reward points recently.

Wow! That’s a shock.

That stinks.  I liked AIH.  I haven’t bought anything from Midwest or NB in awhile and I think I posted that here.  This may have changed but at some point if you don’t select PRIORITY SHIPPING, they basically put your order on a slow boat.  I ordered one time and just selected normal (cheapest option) shipping.  Something like 6 days went by before I got an email saying that the order was being processed.  I called them and asked what was taking so long and someone explained that if you don’t choose priority shipping then they conclude that you’re not in a hurry.  AIH, Label Peelers and Ritebrew get all my business for everything except hops.  For hops it’s Hop Heaven and YVH.

Hmmm. I wonder if they will keep the website but move the fulfillment, support, etc to the same warehouse and staff used for the Northern Brewer and Midwest business.  In other words, lay-off the staff (unfortunate for sure), but keep the business. They are still advertising $25 gift certificates with $125 purchase. That would suck for customers if they are truly shutting down.

This would also affect Austin Homebrew Supply since they are owned by Adventures in Homebrewing.

Damn! They have become one of my go-to’s over the years. Good thing I’m in good shape with kegs, because their deals were unbeatable.

This might not be 100% accurate. The source of this worked there for many years.

I haven’t ordered much from AIH, but it’s sad if this is true. As far as NB being slow, they sit on orders. I live just north Minneapolis/St. Paul and it would take days to get it shipped and it would arrive within 1 day of shipping. I could actually order from MoreBeer and get it faster out of California. I never understood why they would sit on orders. I ordered form them recently and it was better.

As far as hops, Yakima Valley Hops is super. Highly recommend them.

Or they may be closing the storefront, and going to 100% online.

Stay tuned.

Not a fan of consolidation this won’t bode well for customers down the road.

crap, my son gave me a 60 dollar gift card.  guess i better use it soon.  it might be too late already.

My LHBS is also my online store. They can get anything I want if they don’t have it in stock… and they have a lot in stock. Plus flat rate shipping and fast turnaround. https://www.hopcraftsupply.com/

I know this sounds like I’m wearing the tinfoil hat but did we learn at some point that NB and Midwest were actually owned by AB-InBev or something?  That might have been a rumor or something but I seem to remember it.

Ah.  I did some Googling:

That was August 7, 2019.

AHS has publicly said Mar 31. End of an era! Thankfully we have a very good HBS south in Austin.

Also, I hope Jason and the team there are in a happy place. Rather than bemoan the loss of some convenience, Jason and his folk did a fantastic job with AIH and AHS, and sponsored a lot of events and comps through the years. They will be missed.

Thanks for sharing this. Time to cash in my rewards points and give them my business one last time.

If you like a place- buy your stuff from them!  Price is not the be all end all.

I would order some things from them that Adventures didn’t carry. Good service and fast delivery. Might stop by the store tomorrow on my way by.

Hopcraft is one of the few shops that carries chevelier heritage malt, although the price is now $2.19, up from the $1.79 it was for a long time.

I did stop in on the way back from the Leelanau. Good selection, good prices.

They carry some hops grown by MI Hop Alliance, so i got a pound of Michigan Chinook.

AHA members get 10% off of in store purchases when you present your membership card.  That was nice.

Wow. AIH has been my go-to for a while for my online purchases. I never bought much from NB or MW so I’m not sure what changes may follow but probably time to look around at other options. I buy locally as I can but neither of the two shops “close” to me have the broad selection of AIH.
