I know this is pretty subjective. What time addition do you think imparts the most hop flavor? For some reason I have always gone with 20 minutes as my main flavor addition. I guess this relates to beer with relatively few hop additions altogether.
I’ve always done 15-0 minutes for flavor. I’ve started pushing more of my hops out to 0 minutes for a nice flavor addition.
zero with a 20 minute steep/WP at about 180F
+1. Not to mention the obvious FWH, hopstand, and dry options.
I was always getting plenty of aroma (mainly from my dry hops), but I didn’t get hop flavor to the levels i wanted until I started doing FWH and hop stands. Now my hoppy beers use FWH and 0 minute additions almost exclusively, with the occasional 60-minute addition when I want a bit of a sharper bitterness. I hop stand anywhere from 30-90 minutes. If I don’t want too much additional bitterness from the hop stand I’ll chill to about 180F then start the stand.
Thanks everyone. Didn’t realize so much flavor was extracted from FWH and hop stands. I guess I can keep with my planned additions at 10, 5, 0, and DH. I thought maybe an ealier addition at 20 might add more hop flavor.
