German Lager Strain

What is your favorite German/Bavarian Lager strain?

2206/2308/2633/820/920/838/833/860/189/34-70

Its a lot to compare, but I need to step up my lager game, and I think my strain is my problem.  I have only used 860/833/838, I had to check my recipes, thus far and am less than impressed.

I’ve been using 34/70 almost exclusively for my lagers (marzen, Doppelbock, Munich Helles).  It’s my 001 of lager yeasts.

I have used every single lager yeast produced by white labs, wyeast and fermentis. 2206 game set match.

yup. Cant say enough good things about 34/70.

2352 which I keep on slants. (Thanks Mark) Great strain, and it’s fun to play yeast banker. I have a couple batches in D Rest right now with 2206, so undecided still. But if it actually is Weihenstephaner, hard to argue

I like 2633 for maltier beers and 2278 for drier ones. That said, I don’t have easy access to liquid yeast, and 34/70 does just fine for the vast majority of my lagers.

2206 is my favorite all around lager strain. Attenuates well, with nonetheless a malty finish, and actually flocs well compared to some of the powdery ones. I’ve switched to it in the last year and will probably stick with it. I do like 2633 as mentioned and have
used a ton of 2124. I prefer 2206.

Edit - I’d like to try 2352 or LagerX strain at some point though.

Want a slant? I have 3. Need to keep 2. Now would be the time, cold weather. All you’d need is an alcohol lamp, loop, and a way of doing sterile 20ml starter

I’d love it but it’s been a challenge to find time to brew for a year. Can hardly keep my taps full right now with all the kids’ activities. Thanks for the cool offer, though!

Any time, just ask. I owe ya for help winning a medal, well… ribbon. I’ll be keeping it around. The beer on tap right now was propped up from a slant that I made 10 months prior. It took off like it was fresh off the mountain

Nah, you did the work and nailed that stout. Tasty recipe though. If I thought I had the time, I’d look into tracking down that stuff, but I don’t want to waste a good slant. If things lighten up here timewise, I may let you know. Hell, doing that double batch of dunkel one day and the IPA the next week required the planets to all line up and also an act of congress.

Lamp $5, lamp fuel $5 for enough to last 20 years, chunk of thin wire with a handle, 50ml and 100ml flask if you want to get really fancy  $5

WY2124 for me. Very clean, very forgiving, total work horse. Good for both hoppy styles and malty styles.

I’ve liked 2124, 2308, and 2206 in the past. Not sure I have a favorite, which seems weird since I brew more than 50% lagers. I like them all for different reasons. I guess I like 2124 because it’s so versatile; I like doing India Pale Lagers with that strain, among other ale styles.

Yup, 2124 or 34/70 (same thing) for reliability and versatility all the way.  But I’ll have to try 2206 to see what it’s got.

Style dependent 2124-2206. Id have to lean a shade more to 2124.

Any idea how long you can keep a strain on slant like this?
