Hallertau Blanc

Has anyone played around with this hop yet? I’ve had a few commercial examples with it in the hop bill, but never a solo hop beer. What is the consensus from my fellow homebrewers?

I ordered a pound of it and going to do a single hop IPA

If you’re gonna single hop an IPA with it, plan on using a lot (I know, big surprise coming from me). It’s a nice hop with a subtle white grape character, but it is still a Hallertau offshoot, ie., low AA, low oil content, subtle flavors. I like it, though.

I wanted to use some in my last IPA, but couldn’t get it locally so I’d have had to order it special, and the absurd shipping costs totally killed the order for me.  However I’ll be very interested to hear how yours turns out, as eventually I’m sure I’ll find it cheaper and still want to try it.

I ordered from YVH, will probably do 1oz at 60, 1oz at 20, 2oz at 10, 2oz at whirlpool, 2oz dry hop at high krausen and then 2pz dry hop in keg

Used it as a 100% hop in a saison last summer. At first it was quite intense slightly overpowering the yeast character, but at about 4 wks in the keg the hops dropped off a bit and what was left behind married well with the yeast character of the finished beer. I would definitely use them again. An interesting hop with some quality fruitiness and light floral too.

As for the late hop amounts, it’s all personal preference. But an oz @ 60 (being a fairly low AA hop) won’t net you many IBU for IPA level bitterness. $0.02. .

Yeah might just bitter to ~45-50 IBU with magnum at 60

Sounds like a plan!
