Hemp Seeds

The other day I noticed that my local Whole Foods sells hemp seeds in bulk, and I thought I might try them in a beer.  Does anyone have a good idea of what they might contribute flavorwise?

According to what I’ve found on the internet, they have a flavor that is both “toasty” and “nutty.”

I’m thinking maybe 15% of the grist in a basic pale ale recipe.  Thoughts?

Based on the hemp beers I’ve tasted, what they contribute is the ability to say “I brewed a hemp beer”.  Maybe there are better examples that I haven’t tried.

Well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

They may make you test positive on a wiz quiz.   Best to be pragmatic about it.  ::slight_smile:

Nectar Hemp Ale has always been a good beer. Its a brown ale and the hemp seeds do impart a little bit of a nutty flavor. If you want it to be more intense, you should toast them. I think the key to brewing a good hemp ale is to get “inspired” and then brew!

You sure are right about the nutty and flavorful part, it says here Buy CBD Oil from Formula Swiss - Organic & Vegan Certified. Will the taste compliment with a beer though?

Generally you don’t want oil in beer, and practically it doesn’t mix with water anyway.  So how much of that comes through is debatable.

I never did get around to brewing it…

So, were the seeds used for something else?  ;D

The silver lining is that seven years later you have a lot more hemp products to choose from. ;D

Which leads to never getting around to anything…

Hey! I’ve also read about the seeds being nutty in flavor just like he did so I guess it’s true.

Well, from past experience in hemp use, they taste like crap when you smoke them!

That was not the case in the hemp beers I’ve tried.
