Hops Anyone?

I saw this topic on another forum and thought it would be good to talk about our hop inventory.

How much and how many varieties of hops do you have in your current inventory?

Personally, I have about 10 pounds of 15-20 different varieties. I keep them all vacuum sealed and frozen. I try to split pound size orders into 1/4lb increments. I use a FoodSaver vacuum sealer and they keep for quite a while in my freezer. Most of my inventory is American varieties but I also have a significant German Noble stash as well.

What’s your inventory looking like these days?

1.5 pound Magnum,
1.5 pound Cascade,
1 pound Centennial,
1 pound Willamette,
1 pound Amarillo,
1 pound Mt Hood,
couple ounces US Hallertauer

Off the top of my head, about 20 lb. of maybe 15 different varieties.

My club just divided up our bulk grain & hop order this past weekend.  For hops, I came home with:
2 lbs Cascade
1 lb Warrior
1 lb EKG
1 lb Saaz
1 lb Centennial

In the freezer already were (these are approx)
1 lb Magnum
0.75 lb Chinook
4 oz Willamette
4 oz Mt Hood
4 oz Perle
2 oz Vanguard
2 oz Amarillo
2 oz Bullion
2 oz Tetnager
2 oz Norther Brewer
& maybe around 1 oz each of Zeus, Fuggles, Target

Editted for omissions

I’ve got maybe 4 or 5 pounds of whole hops (mostly Sonnet Golding, Hallertau, Cascade, Simcoe, Amarillo), and a few ounces of pellets.  Six more kinds of pellets are in the mail, less than 2 lbs total.

Probably a pound each of Willamette, Tettnanger, Hallerttau, Fuggles, Amarillo Cascades, Golding, Saaz and Perle.  Smaller amounts of Liberty, Columbus, Challenger, Styrian Goldings and Mt. Hood.

I have more than my wife appreciates. I really need another freezer. Roughly a pound each of Hallertau, Magnum, Cascade, Centennial. Then smaller quantities of Styrian Goldings, Saaz, Northern Brewer, EKG. I think there’s more too, but I can’t remember off the top of my head.

wow, i have only a few ounces of home grown magnum, sterling, sentiem and maybe an ounce of hallertau. i feel left out

Fix it!

or… ;D

~10#. 90% leaf. Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Columbus, Mt. Hood, Willamette…a few more I can’t remember. Vacuum packed and frozen.

don’t worry compared to me you are rich. I have the 2 oz of ivanhoe I am going to dry hop my current barley wine with and .5-.75 oz here and there of some summit and fuggles.

EDIT i buy my hops as I use them.

If you grow your own hops, it’s not uncommon to have several pounds on hand.  Of the 20 lb. in my freezer, I’d guess at least 5 lb. are from my Cascade crop last year.

Ahh for a yard. Everytime I move I hope we will have a yard and a plan to stay in one place long enough to plant some hops. I planted a couple of artichokes last fall but it looks like we are moving in June again so no artichokes for me. Gotta buy a house. renting sucks.

We’ve grown artichokes for several years.  That alone would be reason enough to buy a house!  Good luck, man.

At least 10oz of Zeus  >:(
10oz Mt Hood
10oz Fuggle
10oz Magnum
12oz Chinook

High alpha whole hops. Hard to get rid of actually.

Now I know who to call when I need some Cascade hops.

will do ;D, the homegrown are just starting there second year.

Wow I just went from perfectly content to feeling inadequate.  I only have a # of perle, a # of amarillo, 1/2# of mt rainier and a few ounces of misc hops.  +1 on the vacuum sealer and freezer storage.  Cheers, j

I’ll bring a few lb. to SD!
