Hoses....

So drying out hoses seems to be the bane of my freaking existence.  how do people handle this? every time we let them dry they seem to come out with spots on the inside of the house etc, which i can only assume is not very good.  We have a bottle cleaner that has a nipple that fits into hoses so we manage to get high pressure into our hoses and we sanitize the hell out of them, its just getting them dry in the end.

Air compressor works great

You know, when i put this up i knew someone was gonna say that.  My reply to you is thus. Id rather be buying brewing gear that i will get more use and enjoyment out of then what seems like a 1 trick pony.  Thanks for the advice tho, i will definatly consider it!

Jeff

My advice is don’t worry about it.  Rinse them well, hang them to dry, and sanitize before using, and you’ll be fine.

+1 and change the cold side hoses every couple months.

Wouldn’t suggest buying one, but lots of brewers are DIYers and have stuff like that…
How about a hairdryer and a funnel…
How about attaching one end to the ceiling fan and using centrifugal force…
Com’on now, you’re a HOMEBREWER for heavens sake!

LOL, i will find a creative way to fix my issue and report back!

I’ll be pulling for you…we’re all in this together

I also use an air compressor, but didn’t buy it for brewing.  I also use the air compressor to clean out my grain mill, and blow liquid out of my herms coil and wort chiller.  It is now indispensable during my brew day.

When doing things away from the compressor, clean, rinse and hang, sanitize before use.

Use softer water, a cleanser that contains a chelator (like PBW), rinse with something like StarSan (which is a mild acid), or some combination of the above.  I use water from my Culligan softener and rinse with StarSan.

+2

I rinse them in StarSan and hang to dry.  Blowing them out with a hair dryer or air compressor I would be worried about traces of oil from the compressor or who-knows-what coming out of the hair dryer.  If you’re worried about getting the water out of the hoses, you could pour a little rubbing alcohol through them to get the residual water out.

Hey, can women use that phrase?

As long as she knows how to use duct tape.

I say “Broses before…”

I come from where all the children are slightly above average. Red is just spittin’ distance across the border
and duct tape actually comes in a variety of colors because the “women” folk use it for everything.
We carry a roll of the stuff in our cosmetic bag since the TSA has banned flying with razors.

Don’t mess with me Denny & Beersk

I take them outside and swing them over my head at warp speed :o, other than that I have the same issue.
I would blow them out with my air compressor but that would be quite unsanitary.
I will sit and listen to others and see if I can glean some better responses than mine.

I just blow through them to get the water out.  May be unsanitary, but I’m gonna sanitize them before use anyway.

True that!!

Blowing pushes bad stuff in. It would be better to put one end in a bottle of vodka and suck till you don’t see spots.

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I personally follow the ‘don’t sweat it’ method, and star san on brew day.
