Storage of equipment (tubes, brushes, funnel, etc.)

So where do you all store all of your equipment when it’s not in use? Secondly, do you only sanitize a particular piece of equipment right before you use it?

i have a bucket with star san i store some of my gear in (hoses and 02 stone). the rest is washed and stored in another older bucket on top of my mash tun(72qt cooler) in my brewing closet.

i have a few bins for odds and ends that is also in the brewing closet. everything is together. i have to pull it all out when i brew but it’s not that much trouble.

Spare closet, and sanitation right before use

I store everything in open buckets in my basement. I let them air dry after washing and then sanitize right before using.

Everything is in my garage.

I sanitize right before use.

I brew in my garage.  I keep most stuff in storage drawers and cabinets, and some stuff hangs up.  The drawers are inside the under sink cabinets.  I sanitize before use.

Funny you should ask, I’m an apartment brewer in stage 2 of getting my gear better organized. I’m using a combo of bins and plastic containers. Hoses are hung til they are dry and then coiled into a bucket. Long skinny things that can be hung are on the side hanging from hooks. Long things that can’t be hung currently go into a wallpaper tray I use for sanitizing them, though I’m looking for another solution. I have an Ikea trip in my future to buy more bins.

Almost all of my gear fits in a giant rubbermaid container. I can drag or cart it to wherever I’m brewing.

Nice brew area, but when was this picture taken Denny?  If it’s recent, then you need a new monitor and upgrade from Windows ME ;D

I also brew in my garage:

I use my old brewstand, located to the right, for storage of most stuff, including kegs, racking canes and all dry goods.  i have a couple double prong hooks from Home Depot (that I think are for bikes maybe?) to hang hoses, spoons, brushes etc off to dry.  buckets and everything else gets stacked on top.

Its on casters as well, so i can move it pretty easily if necessary.

I’ve got everything in a variety of buckets and boxes.  The stuff that gets wet (immersion chillers, spoons, funnels) are in buckets.  The boxes hold scales, cappers, caps, and a host of other things I’ve collected over the years.  I also have a tool box full of odds and ends like stoppers, spices, keg parts, etc.

Hoses and brushes hang over the laundry sink.  Some stuff, like hydrometers, sit on the drying rack on the dryer until the next time I use them.

Everything is sanitized before use and after use.

I should probably get a better handle on organization…

I’ve noticed after cleaning out/off some of the smaller plastic tubes that small beads of water tend to stick around. Will they eventually dry, or is a problem for mold? Not sure how to get these thin tubes completely dry. Thanks.

They’ll dry and probably leave spots.  I’ve never worried about it.

You can swing the tubing around over your head like a madman and try to get all the water out.

+1

I would think that as long the water spots are starsan or the like then whatever remains in the hoses wont be able to hold mold.  Ive also worried about that in the past, but im on batch 20+ and have yet to have a bad batch.

If you use a no-rinse sanitizer (StarSan, Iodophor), the droplets are therefore sanitizing solution. If you mixed it properly, RDWHAHB.

No ME for me!  It was, and still is, Win95.  That’s all I need since all I do with that machine is run Promash.  I do have a 23 in. flat screen monitor on it, now, along with a new and larger desk.

Well, at least your not using 3.1
