Leftover/Spare Hops. What to do?

So I have a bunch of hops leftover from previous brews and from friends brewing. Ive got them all vacuum sealed right after use and put them in the freezer. My question is what do I with them?  Should I list all of the hops I have on here and see what people come up with for ideas of what beer to make from them?

Wouldn’t hurt to list what you have. My first thought is to make an ipa. See what kind of combo you can make that you might not normally brew.

Really would depend on the hops you have. Depending on the hops and your tastes, a Double IPA is a good way to go through a lot of hops quickly, if you’re just looking to use them up. You can easily use 12-16 oz. in a single 5 gallon batch for that style.

Ultimately though, when I am trying to get use up some excess hops, I look at what I have and then choose a beer style I can incorporate them with.

I would probably just use them for bittering. You’re better off not trying to squeeze some aroma hops into a recipe that don’t fit just because you want to use them up. Now if you have hops that are what you want for aroma/flavor, then you might as well create a recipe that uses them since you have them on hand.

Here is a list of my hops:
Hallertau 1.5oz
Willamette 2oz
UK Goldings 2oz
Cascade 1oz
Centennial 3oz
Warrior 0.5oz
Palisade 0.5oz
Liberty 3oz
LemonDrop 1oz
ADHA 529 1oz

Mix them all together to make a mega blend for a big IPA or DIPA. May be dumb but I have always wanted to do that and call the beer “Hop Chaos”

I was thinking that when someone mentioned it above but affraid it would be too many flavors and come out weird.

I know these grains arent enough (im a partial mash brewer and know I need more extract/pale malt) but here is what spare grain I have too.
Grains:
1lb Golden Promise pale Malt
1lb Flaked Wheat
8 ounces Kiln Amber Malt
8 ounces Crystal 15
8 ounces Crystal 30
1lb Crystal 40
8 ounces Crystal 75
4 ounces Chocolate Malt
8 ounces Vienna Malt

Thanks for the input

I did post my hops and grains. thanks

It seems to me you have a few good options

I’d consider doing an ipa. I think you can use up  the GP, wheat, kiln amber, some C.

Hop wise the Palisade, Centennial, and Cascade would work. I don’t know what size batches you’re running, possibly the Hallertau (though that by itself would be enough for a wheat batch).

You have lots of options with the grain and hops. American styles - Blonde, APA, Amber, and Brown, English bitters. Lagers if you’re ready. What styles do you like best ?

I already have plans for a Brown and Amber/Red ale.  Ive never tried bitters.  I mostly drink/brew APA, IPA and I did just make a Coffee Blonde Ale.

Lemon Drop blends nicely with Cascade and Centennial. It would make a nice APA.

I know I would need more base malt and extract but what else from grains would you use?

10 or 12 oz of crystal 40 + extract +1/2 lb of sugar would work nicely. The sugar serves to dry the beer out a bit (ie., prevent it from finishing sweet due to using the extract) . If you use software, target around 1.054 OG.

thanks for the input

Good luck !

what would you do for a hop schedule

I’d boil the 1/2 oz of Warrior for 60 minutes. Then after the boil, cool to 175-170F and add 2.5 oz each of Cascade and Lemon Drop and let the hops steep for 20-25 minutes, then cool as usual. After fermentation I 'd dry hop 1.25-1.5 oz each of Cascade and Lemon Drop. It’ll be good. You might also consider using RO (reverse osmosis) water from a grocery store machine - no concerns of chlorine and it works well with the already mineralized extract.

I dont have enough of those hops for that though.
