Ralph's Summer Wheat

I am giving Wakatu hops a try. I hear they taste a bit like lime so I thought they would be great for a summer wheat beer. My hop stand was for half an hour beginning at 160F.

You will have to report back. Its always good to find out about all these new hops.

I look forward to hearing how the 160F stand comes out. I’m betting flavor and aroma come out nice. I’ve been working my way down the temp scale but haven’t gotten that low yet. So far, cooler is better IMO - but I know there has to be a threshold temp where it drops off.

I kegged this today. The hydrometer sample was incredible. The balance was perfect. The hops do have a hint of lime flavor. Other than that they taste like hallertau (spelling?). I cant wait until this one is ready to serve.

That’s a lot of bu’s for a wheat. Right up my alley. Will have to give these hops a try with my pale lagers.

After tasting my hydrometer sample I ordered another half pound of these hops. I am going to wnt to keep a supply of this on hand all summer.
