Anyone ever have a regulator seize/freeze? Mine is the one below and one of the regulators will not budge. I initially thought I had a stripped plastic cap because the cap kept “popping” as I turned it. So, I removed the red cap but still couldn’t adjust the pressure using a socket wrench. The other regulator turns as smooth as the day it was purchased. I’ve ordered a new Taprite Secondary Regulator Bonnet Assembly (Red Cap) with the hope that this will fix it, but I’m skeptical.
They sell a regulator re-build kit for when the diaphragm or other components go bad. It is hard to know what is causing this, but could some beer have backed up into the regulator? I use check valves on the QDC’s to avoid the issue, but it can still happen. The “Blow tie” versions are easily broken down and can use duotite fittings for ease of connections.
Thanks for the reply. I do have check valves on my disconnects so I don’t think that’s the issue. The regulator is about 5-6 years old and has been inside my beer frig the entire time. Maybe moisture from the frig?? Only thing is, the other regulator is fine. I have read here and there that this problem, while not common, is not unheard of.
Why this happened is a great question and one I haven’t even considered. I’ve been too wrapped up in figuring out how to fix it so I don’t have to spring for another dual regulator. ![]()
I had the same problem. I put the regulator in a vice and used a large wrench to screw the adjustment bolt all the way out. The threads on the bolt were all bunged up and clogged with metal. I tried to clean it up using a dremmel tool but that didn’t work too well. I ended up buying a new one and that works great.
Do you keep you CO2 tank (and regulator) in the fridge w/ the keg(s)? If so, the condensation can cause a regulator to ‘stick’ over time.
